   Leave a bone for Winston

Mr. Winston, The Buppie, The Bubby, El Perrito Ferroz, El Mono, Pasha, El Tigre, El Mono, El Raton (when I'm wet) (yes, I personify a lot of other animals)

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:

January 21st 2005

Food, his squeaky toys, walking in the country, when one of us comes home, our neighborhood bookstore - because of the cat, he scampers to it from blocks away, chasing vermin, digging holes, jumping up on the windowsill to sit and watch the birds.

Vacuum cleaner, step-ladder, dogs on "his" block, trucks, not getting what he wants

Favorite Toy:
Anything with food in it, or that squeaks, my husband

Favorite Food:
Cheese, raw small carrots

Favorite Walk:
On Long Island, in the woods, with plenty of wild life, chasing the rabbits there.

Best Tricks:
High five, shake ("left paw"), right ("right paw")

Arrival Story:
We were fortunate to locate him after only a few weeks of looking for a Norfolk Terrier. We drove down to Virginia to meet him and fell in love. Though listless during our drive back north, when we entered Manhattan and he saw the lights of 42nd Street, he immediately became excited - a dog after our own hearts.

Winston is walked every day with two other dogs - a Havanese named Duncan, and a small mutt named Guy. Winston thinks this is "his" posse and keeps them in line! When he goes to Duncan's house, he heads straight for the toys, sorts out the squeaky ones from the non-squeaky ones, and then keeps watch over the squeaky pile. Despite this - and eating Duncan's food - he's often invited to stay longer to play - must be because he's so cute! From Winston: I am famous in Iraq because my master (that's what he thinks) sells food to Iraq and the people he does business with love me. They call me "The Ambassador" and say that dogs in America must be very rich, because they wear clothes (I only have a coat though), get toys of their own that they are allowed to rip up and quickly get bored with, have their own health insurance and even people who come to the house to groom them (I could live without that though!). Some of them keep photos of me on their desks or screen savers!

I'm Better!

I'm very happy because I got taken home yesterday - and no surgery for me! Turns out I had eaten a piece of corn cob, which exited yesterday. So, now I'm on special wet food and Pepcid AC for three days. The vet suggested that my owner put a muzzle on me to stop me from eating garbage on the streets, but for now she's going to work on corrective behaviour, starting with teaching me to heel properly, and only let me sniff around in spots that she chooses. Not sure I'm going to like this, but I'm not smart enough to learn from my negative experiences, she says!

I'll be even happier soon, because my master is coming home from a long business trip tonight!

I'm sick tonight and by myself at the vet ...

Well, I'm very sad to post that tonight I am sleeping at the vet, have had many x-rays taken and have been given barium, as I appear to have eaten a foreign object, despite the best attempts of my owners and dog walker to stop me from scarfing up things on the street like kleenex, bones and other strange things that look delicious to me: 5

My master is in Bangkok, and keeps calling every few hours to find out how I am doing. My mistress is very sad, because this is only the second night she's been away from me, and she is very worried. She keeps expecting to hear my little paws clicking away on the floor, to come to ask for dinner, or to go outside. When she hears other dogs barking, she expects to see me come running and then jumping up onto the windowsill to see who exactly these other dogs are.

I forgot to mention ...

I am very happy because I am going to get to go to Northern Wisconsin again this summer, where I learned to swim last year. You can see photos of me with my life vest on when I was learning in my photos. Although I hate the plane trip and am completely miserable - and make my owners miserable - I am *so* happy when I get there. I can swim, run, fish, chase things and play with the poodle that also comes up there. He doesn't realize how fast I can run! I'll be sure to post about my vacation - Eden for a Manhattan dog!
