It has been one year ago today that I had to help you make your journey to the Bridge. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you, miss seeing your sweet face. Though you were only with me for four years and I adopted you at 13 years, I could have never loved you more.
Missing you my sweet Sunny . . .

My Gotcha Day!

When Mom first adopted me 4 years ago today, everyone told her that at my then age (estimated 13 years), that I would probably only be with her for a year or two because of my poor condition. But with lots of love and good care, I was with my Mom for almost 4 years! I know she is really thinking of me today and I want to thank all my Dogster friends that have stopped by and helped us celebrate today. I know my family especially misses me today . . .

Just wanted to say thank you to all of our Dogster and Catster friends for all the support sent our way when our Sunny went to the Rainbow Bridge. If you ever wonder if your pawmails, rosettes, and kind words matter when someone loses a cherished pet, please know that they matter very much.

Regardless of the ups and downs and changes that we have seen on this site over the years, just remember, that the friendships that are formed on this site is what really matters. We all have something in common that bonds us together: we love our dogs and cats and we are there for each other in times of need. For that, this family will always be grateful.

My Sweet Sunny suffered a stroke yesterday and I had to make the difficult decision today to let him make his journey to the Bridge today. Though he was at least 16 years old, and I adopted him only 4 years ago, I feel so blessed to have had him in my life for the past 4 years. I will never know what his life like was before I had him, but I know no one could have loved him more than I did (as did his brother Wesley and his cats Smudge and Sissel). Thank you Sunny for all the joy you brought to our lives. We all miss you and love you so much.

Mom is so proud of me! She just found out today that the photo she took of me last summer was chosen as the cover photo for the Nor Cal Aussie Rescue 2011 Calendar!! Despite my age, she always tells me what a handsome boy I am---I guess she is right!!

Clean carpet--not for long!!

In my older age, every once and a while I have a little accident on the carpet. Yesterday Mom rented a steam cleaner as she wanted to see if she could clean the carpets as well or better than the professionals. She also bought a new vacuum cleaner, (thanks Samoa's and Autumn's Mom for the great suggestion)!! After two hours of steam cleaning, Mom was thrilled to see how great the carpets came out. Of course while Mom was cleaning, Wesley and I were outside. That gave me ample time to get into the tomato plants and have a little feast, unknown to Mom. So while she was taking a nice hot bath and pondering over how great the carpets looked, I proceeded to hurl up all those tomatoes I ate on her newly cleaned carpet!! Thank goodness Mom loves me so much and had not taken the steam cleaner back. She just laughed at me and got the steam cleaner out and cleaned the carpets, AGAIN!!!!!!!

We are so glad around here that the fireworks are over. Mom always wonders if people know how much they are upsetting so many animals when they set off their fireworks?? I may have gone blind in my old age, but I still hear pretty good for an old guy. Despite Mom shutting all the windows and turning up some music, Wesley and I still got upset. Despite all of that, we sure hope all our Dogster pals had a great 4th!

My Adoption Day!

It was three years ago today that Mom adopted me and promised to give me my forever home. And it has been 3 wonderful years for both of us. We really don't know how old I am as my previous family abandoned me. If it wasn't for a lot of lucky breaks, I would have probably already been at the Rainbow Bridge as so many unwanted dogs and cats travel there way sooner than they should. Thank goodness there are so many wonderful people out there who find it in there hearts to adopt a shelter pet like me, especially one as old as I was when Mom adopted me. Thank you a to my pals who have sent me Adoption/Birthday wishes!! It has been a very special day, filled with lots of love . . .

Bad day!

I sure scared Mom yesterday. For some crazy reason, I just could not drink enough water yesterday. By the time Mom realized what I was doing, my tummy looked like I was about to give birth!! I also became very confused and started running into walls. So off I went to see Dr. Bill. They took blood, urine, did xrays and made me throw up all of that water and my breakfast too. I spent the day with Dr. Bill, but Mom insisted I came home last night to be with her. I know she was very worried that my kidneys might be failing and she might have to let me go to the Bridge. When I got home, all I wanted to do was lay by my water bowl, waiting for Mom to give me the little bit of water I was allowed each hour. I didn't have any interest in eating or sleeping in my usual place next to Mom's bed. Finally Mom feel asleep about midnight. When she awoke early this morning, there I was with my kitties Smudge and Sissel, laying next to her bed, cleaning them like I often do. She put some water out for me, and much to her happiness, drank just enough to quench my natural thirst--and no more!! I ate breakfast and wasn't disoriented anymore. She did get a phone call from Dr. Bill and the labs did show that my kidneys were not working perfect, but not too bad for a dog my age. I feel much better and don't know why I did what I did yesterday, and Mom hopes I never do it again. I will be going on a "renal diet" to see if that will help my kidney labs improve. Mom knows everyday with a senior dog like me is a blessing.
We will be going to the cabin in a couple of weeks so we can watch the Winter Olympics in a real winter atmosphere. Wesley and I can hardly wait to play in that white stuff called snow!

Stuck In Christmas!?!?

Mom says we are "stuck in Christmas" until our new computer arrives---hopefully tomorrow!!! It has been almost 2 weeks now without a computer!!
Mom took me to see a veterinary opthomologist yesterday to see if anything could be done about me losing my sight. I do have cataracts in both eyes, but at my age she was not really too optomistic about surgery for me. She said that many dogs my age that go blind can become very depressed. But she also said what Mom has always known. She said I am about the happiest boy she has ever seen!! But Mom already knew that . . . She also saw that my dog brother Wesley acts as a seeing eye dog for me, as I have a tendency to follow closely behind him. She said that will help keep my attitude positive too. I always knew I had a special brother . . .
Hope to be back on line soon!
Sunny
PS. Wesley in entered in a photo contest at the local newspaper. You can vote for him by following the link on his page. That would be so much appreciated if you have time.
