Arrival Story: We were on a border collie puppy hunt in a small town. The breeder had sold them all, and we were dejectedly headed home. In the middle of this tiny town, we saw a young man with an absolutely adorable little fluffball of a puppy, and we stopped to ask him where he got her, in hopes of getting one for ourselves. Unfortunately, there were no more pups available. Fortunately for us, though, the young man was having a problem--he'd got his puppy without checking with his landlord, and if he couldn't find a home for her immediately, he was going to be evicted. Of course we were elated when he offered her to us. The young man didn't look too flush with dinero, so we offered to pay him a fair price for his puppy (which he accepted), and we brought her home with us. At the ripe old age of 6 weeks, Kiki changed homes for the 3rd time.
Bio: Before bringing Kiki into our home, we stopped at our vet to get her vaccinated, wormed and treated for a horrible flea infestation. While waiting for the vet, a little boy came up to us and said, "is that a BEAR??". Nowadays, Kiki is a bit larger than she should be, and I joke that she really is morphing into a bear--we're just waiting for the legs to get a bit stumpier.... :-). Kiki was supposed to be my dog, but my husband fell so much in love with her that she became his dog. That's good, though, as he now has a dog of his own to love and spoil, and I have my hands full with the border collies and the naughty little pommie boys. Kiki is a happy, loving, and very serious dog who, despite proper socialization efforts, has decided that no one outside her immediate "pack" can touch her. So please admire Hubby's pretty girl, but if you ever see her in person, please don't touch! It just stresses her out :-).
Forums Motto: Dad? DAD!! I love you!!
Who I love bestest:: DAD! Mom's nice, too, though :-).
Who I love leastest:: That mean ol' Jasmine, who only wants to fight with us girls.
It is with unbearable sorrow that we said goodbye to loving Kiki on May 23, 2009. Her kidneys failed, and treatment didn't work. Our veterinarian said she wasn't in pain, so we took her back home with us. Her "daddy" took the last 2 days of her life off of work so he could spend them with her. We were thankful for sunny, warm days, where the two of them laid on the lawn together, napping contentedly. Her passing was peaceful, but the hole it left in our hearts will take a LONG time to heal.
My Daddy (and Mom, too), went shopping yesterday, and brought home a big ol' knuckle bone just for me, because I get to be Dog of the Week this week. How's that for great? I chewed and chewed on that bone, and only after ALL the meat and goodies were gone, did I share it with Rex, who doesn't mind that it's just an empty bone, now....
That means I've joined the ranks of packmates Max and PJ as DotW here on Dogster--amazing! That doesn't even count the time that Merry was a daily diary pick, and Hope was a diary pick--twice! I am SO happy! Dad is SOOOO proud of me! Mom's happy for me, too :-). Thank you, Ms. Molly Golightly! You've made my week! DOGSTER RULES!
