Send Good Thoughts/Prayers for Edward

Hi everyone!

If you're still following Edward's story, please send him some good thoughts and/or prayers. This morning I got this email from his poor dad:

Just wanted to send a quick update to let you know
that Edward had to undergo emergency surgery last
Wednesday. I noticed that Edward was unable to stand
up by himself or use his legs so I took him to the
animal hospital where he was admitted overnight.
After an MRI, they noticed he had a disc rupture,
where part of the spinal cord and appending cartiledge
breaks off and lodges itself into a different area of
the spinal cord, suppressing it and leaving him
paralyzed. He underwent surgery and he's home now,
although in a lot of pain =( He's slowly beginning to
walk again though his recoup will be about 2-3 weeks.

Just wanted to let you know that he's OK and will be
back to normal in a short time.

Edward's dad is a hero for giving him the surgery, and our family as well as Young At Heart is wishing Edward a speedy recovery. Poor, poor puppy!

We love you, sweet-eared Edward! Feel better, baby!

UPDATE - DELERIOUSLY HAPPY!

Oh I was so happy to get this update from our adpotive family, Peeps. You have no idea. When Candie came to us she got soooo sick, and then she was better, but there was so much involved in her care I worried about her going home. It turns out I didn't need to!

She is, as befits her cuteness, a pretty pretty princess. I'm so happy for her. For everyone. Check this out!

**************

Everything is great! All [Candie's mom] talks about is Candie - and Candie very much "owns" the house. She spends half the night with [Candie's mom's]caregiver, and half the night with [Candie's mom]. Isn't that funny?

It turned out that she did not have a skin allergy, but Addison's disease, which is now completely under control - she's healthy, shiny, with bright eyes, woofs at anyone who comes to the door, and runs around the house with any socks anyone leaves on the floor like she's a puppy. In brief, the three of them are deliriously happy!

**************

Dear Candie's mom and everyone involved in her care: Candie had such a rough row to hoe, and here you are, her guardian angels. Her life has meaning which is obviously sock-stealing, and to give her a place to get up to mischief and be fussed over... well, it's nothing short of miraculous.

One of the things that fostering has taught me is how many amazingly huge-hearted people there are in the world. I don't know that I would have believed it before I met so many of them. All of our adoptive families are just shockingly good people.

We're so happy you're happy, Candie! Thank you, Candie's forever family!

CANDIE IS DANDY!

Here is an update from the niece of Candie's Forever Mommy!

[Candie] is very much at home. She now barks at the door if there is someone she does not know, has [Her Mom] and [Her Mom's Live-In Helper] wrapped around her little fingers, so to speak, and seems completely happy. [Her Mom} talks about her non stop. The vet visit went well - no issues. We have switched to a senior food so she can lose a little weight - and she seems happy with that. And she's a flirt with any man who walks in!! All in all, I think everything is going swimmingly!!

Candie, we are so happy for you. You are finally home.

Good dog.

Love,

Fostermama

Still Doing Well!

Hello, my darlings.

It's been about a week and I'm still doing very well in my new home. I like that there are people around all day and I get carried everywhere.

There have been some rumblings that perhaps I need to stay on Prednisone to be healthy, but right now they are distant rumblings.

In the meantime, my foster family is getting a new baby girl that they need to find an adoptive family for. If you get a chance, go and visit Pearl's Page. She comes home this weekend and we have high hopes that her forever family is right around the corner.

I'll update you all after my next vet checkup!

I Have a New Mommy!

Hello my darling dears!

It's Candie here, and I am so happy today! Tonight, the niece of a very nice older lady is coming to get me and is going to take me to her aunt, who will be my new mommy! My foster mom (FM) talked to new mom (NM) over the phone and she is so excited. She wanted to know exactly what I eat and drink and she's just happy that she'll have someone to sit with her in the shade on the porch for hours.

Sitting in the shade for hours getting petted by my favorite person. Could there be anything better? I DON'T THINK SO!

I also get to sleep on the bed and sit on the couch and I'm the only child there. I will be spoiled within an inch of my life.

Thank you all for supporting me through this rough time in my life. I continue to feel better and better and better and I'm hoping this will be my last and forever home. It's a very happy ending for a dog that was sitting in a rural pound about to be put down.

Tons of kisses and I'm sure my foster mom will update you periodically.

Going home today! YAY!

Love

Candie

The Sass is BACK!

Hello my darlings!

First of all, I want to say thank you all so much, those of you who wrote me when I was ill and thought of me. Your hopes and prayers for me pulled me through the darkest hours. My lands I've never been that sick in my life and I hope to never be that ill again!

Luckily I'm just getting better every single day. I'm now off the antibiotics and pain medication and I've halved the dose of my steriod. My foster mom was very worried that when the steriod was decreased I'd get worse, but instead I'm getting better and better every minute. We all now have high hopes that whatever brought me so low was a passing lingering infection and is now gone, rather than a chronic condition.

My parents can pick me up now without me flinching or yelping at all. I get myself up and down the back steps and I have found my Inner Sass and have been sneaking downstairs to check out the cat bowls. Shhhh! Don't tell anyone!

I've rediscovered my voice and will occasionally "hurf!" when I hear my parents at the front door. Rather than carrying my tail "pinned" down by my back legs it is back up and curly over my back where it belongs. That's good, because it's a very nice and fancy tail, if I do say so myself.

I also wrestle rawhides away from my stupid foster brother. Because he's stupid. Stupid idiot. Ha HAH! Never mess with a lady.

In summary: Doing much better. Having fun. Things look good. Still waiting for a mom or dad.

I will update you soon!

Love,

A Healthier, Happier Candiedog

On The Mend

Hello everyone! Candie here.

I hope you had a fantastic Fourth of July. Me, I can't understand why anyone would enjoy that much scary noise, but if it's your thing I hope it was a fun one!

I'm finally back at my foster home after having spent a week at the vets on all kinds of IVs and things. My goodness it was dramatic! All my tests came back negative, so I don't have Lymes disease or Leptospirosis or anything that the vet thought it might be. Now he opines that it may have been a sudden onset menengitis. Whatever it was, it was awful.

I'm still pretty sore and tender but every day I perk up a little more. One of the good signs is that I'm roundly rejecting my pills. I'm such a sneeky lady, they have no idea. They go to give me my pill and I squirm and flip and do everything I can to make it hard for them. After all, why should I be the only one going through something unpleasant?

I used to just take my pills quietly and nicely with almost no help, but after a week at the vets I figure enough is ENOUGH. My foster mom bought a piller, though, so I'm getting my meds despite my every intention not to.

I do get treats after my pills, though, so that's pretty nice.

My foster mom is also relieved that I'm feeling well enough to stretch and squirm and backflip. When I left home just over a week ago I couldn't twitch without yelping. Now I'm up for wrestling. I think it just goes to show what a trouper I am!

I'm back to my lovely never-a-problem-nothing-but-a-sweet-lady self. Hooray!

Kisses to you all,

Candie

Candie is Very Sick

Candie is currently at the hospital on IV fluids, painkillers and antibiotics. It's a long story, but we suspect she may have gotten chomped by a tick right before she came to us and may have Lyme's disease.

She's expected to make a full recovery, but just at the moment she's a very sick little girl. Please send her prayers and good wishes. We're all worried about her.

Discovering My Sass

Hello Darlings! Sorry it's been so long since I've updated but the lady with the computer access has been busy busy busy. I can only write when she's left the computer on at night and she's just never been home.

I am doing so well I utterly can't even tell you. I'm adorable and snuggleable and everyone loves me. My foster dad says I'm a cat-dog and that I only count as a quarter dog because I'm so quiet and lovely that sometimes it's like I'm not even there!

Most of the time that suits me fine because I just want to catch up on my beauty rest or curl up next to my foster parents. (It's also because I'm constantly getting compared to my brute of a foster brother who makes other bad dogs look like Lassie) Lately, though, I've been feeling so on top of things and so good that sometimes I even play! I will grab a dog toy and whip it from side-to-side growling a perfect ladylike growl. Look out, stuffed toys! I kill you in a dainty manner!

I'm still getting into shape, but doing so much better. Everyone loves me, as well they should!

I continue to only improve and have several interested parties. None of them have panned out yet, and for a little girl like me it gets lonely. I'd love to have someone home with me all day to snuggle me up. Is that you?

Could I be your baby?

Ooo. This new diet is wonderful!

Hello, lovies. Candie here.

How was your Memorial Day weekend? Mine was fab. I spent the whole day sleeping under the table on the deck. Lots of nice, fresh air. Wonderful!

Just checking in to tell you that I'm having a very good time. I do get lonely and miss my last mama, but she had Parkinson's disease and I know she did the very best for me a puppy mama could do.

I have been on health food for a while at this new place and I'm rapidly dropping the pounds. When I came in I was really pudgy and itchy and my eyes were weepy. Now I only itch once or twice a day as opposed to all day long, and I can get up and down stairs now without any help. My fur is also starting to be healthier and my eyes look clearer. I eat reasonable amounts and enjoy the non-alergy all-natural dry food.

Physically I'm feeling better, but emotionally I'm sad. My foster mama here has another dog and two cats and a little boy to take care of. She loves me up but her time is limited and I'm used to one-on-one hour-long lovefests! I admit that I have Only Child Syndrome. I want to be a pretty pretty princess!

I'm safe and healthy, but I'd rather get out of here and have an older home with someone who can spend lots and lots of time sitting on the couch with me. If you're looking for a jogging dog then I am not your lady, but if you're looking for a pillow with four legs who worships the ground you walk on, I'm totally your girl!

Hoping to meet you soon, mom. If you want to fill out an application to adopt me click here

Candie

P.S. - Candie still has not chased the cats, even though she's feeling spunkier. She may be okay with them after all!
