Arrival Story: We always thought Puppy was the farmers dog . One day she ventured close to our bungalow . We could see her ribs. The farmer then told us that someone dropped the dog off in a field of cows. The farmer feeds outside cats so puppy shared the cat food and milk. Puppy was there for almost a year. She did not have any human interaction for all that time. And who knows what her past was. She stayed around our bungalow because of a male dog who moved in next door. We started feeding her from across the lane. She wouldn't eat until you looked away from her. For two months we feed her and tried to gain her confidence with treats. Finally, I got her to take a treat from my hand. She made sure I couldn't touch her by backing off as soon as she got the treat. I worked with her every day. I called Shepard rescue to get some advice. She was coming in the bungalow to eat as long as we kept the door open and did not get between her and the door. So we rigged up a pulley and one day we just pulled the door closed and she was in. She looked for a way out and then just lay on the floor. Now we have her but she won't let us touch her. So we holed up for 7 days trying to get her to let us put a collar on her. (Thank god she was paper trained) Finally we got the collar on her, but there was no way she was going to walk on a leash for us. So we carried her to the vet. Turns out she had worms(of course) and fleas and Lime Disease. Well we gave her the Lime treatment(carried her to the doc 2 more times)and she doesn't show any symptoms of Lime now. After 2 months we finally got her to walk on the leash. Turns out she likes it! She didn't know what steps were either. We also had to teach her to play. She hid when you thre a ball so I guess the girl had things thrown at her before. We have had her for a year and nine months now. She is still scared of alot of things, but she sure is my best friend! They really do know when someone saves them.

Duke and I are training our Mom for the Walk for the Animals. We are walking her every day just to get her in shape. She is taking donations to raise money for the Humane Society of Berks County. That is where my brother Duke came to us from. If you want to check out our firstgiving page please go to the website below! I will let everyone know how we did after the walk on September 27.

Happy Birthday to me! And to Dukie. It seems we share the same birthday. Actually Mom and Dad had to pick a day to be our birthday so they picked April Fools Day! They think it's a great day for a birthday. I like birthdays at our house. They should pick more than one a year. Since we don't know for sure I think everyday should be my birthday! We went to the bungalow for a run with dad! Actually he walks and we run! Then Mom came home from work with some chicken and she shared it with us! We love chicken so much. Mom can't eat much cause she had her tummy operated on so Duke and I always share her chicken, but today she brought twice as much just cause it's our birthday! She also got our favorite bones and ice cream will be served when Dad comes home! What a great day! I am 4 years old today. At least that's what they tell me. Dukie is older than me by 1 year. He is writing in his diary when I am finished! He is taking a nap cause the chicken made him so satisfied! I am not ready for a nap yet. There is time for that later. I am gonna get mom to play ball with me now. I Loooove Birthdays!!!Woof Woof Woof!

Today I got to see Dr. Becker. Mom says she liked her alot! She called me sweet! She said" what a sweet dog"! I think thats why Mom liked her. Cause she saw my gentleness! Anyway, I have been licking my paw again. I can't help it. I think it is a nervous habit. Anyway the vet gave me medicine again. She also showed Mom how to put a lampshade on my head. It was clear and I could see through it but I didn't like it too much. She told Mom I should wear it when no one is home with me so my paw can heal up. Duke was sniffing it but how would he like to wear it? She said give it a couple days and it should be better. Mom and Dad brought me in before it got bad so I guess I will heal. I don't know why I lick it. Nerves or compulsion disorder. (Not that I haven't had plenty to worry about already in my life.) Did I mention that the greyhounds loved their cookies? Mom said they were wearing easter hats! One had bunny ears and they had easter coats on. I wish I could have seen them but Mom was working and Duke and I couldn't go along. Mom took pictures and put them on her yahoo photos site so our friends could see them. I know Dukie would never keep a hat on but I think I might like to try. Hey after wearing a lampshade a hat would be an easy thing to wear!
