JUST MY DOG

He is my other eyes that can see above
the clouds; my other ears that hear above
the winds. He is the part of me that can
reach out into the sea.

He has told me a thousand times over that
I am his reason for being: by the way he
rests against my leg; by the way he thumps
his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he
shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.
(I think it makes him sick with worry when he
is not along to care for me.)

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he brags.
Without him, I am only another man. With him,
I am all-powerful.
He is loyalty itself.
He has taught me the meaning of devotion.
With him, I know a secret comfort and a
private peace. He has brought me understanding
where before I was ignorant.
His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
His presence by my side is protection against
my fears of dark and unknown things.
He has promised to wait for me...
Whenever...wherever--in case I need him.
And I expect I will--as I always have.
He is just my dog.

Adopt09 Stroll! Third Place Winner!

Gosh I am so pleased to have been chosen third place! I am overwhelmed and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me feel so very special and loved.
My life didn't start out so great and I felt that my heart was breaking every time I was on my way to a furever home only to be returned after a few hours or even a day. How can anyone know me in just a day?
My Dad saw something in me and he believed in me enough to bring me to his own home.
Somehow he knew that all I needed was time to teach me how to be a good boy. No one ever spent enough time with me to teach me not to do all the things they said were bad. They just gave up on me.
Luckily for me my new Mom was able to take me out every day. She almost gave up on me a couple of times but I won her over with my love for her and my willingness to learn. She taught me to be careful with children and not to pull on the leash. She took me swimming and made sure I was very tired each and every day. We walked miles and miles!
I wasn't always an angel and Dad was very very cross when he saw that I actually tore all the stuffing out of his car seat one day while I was waiting for him.OOOPSred face The seat belts were another no no but he always said that I wasn't going back no matter what! Even after I went through the fence chasing a squirrel and the screen door when I chased a cat. They still kept me.
I am four now and I have never been happier.I have a loving and happy home and I am loved and wanted.
My greatest wish is that all the pups at the shelter could have the same home I am lucky to have.

Thank you again for all the wonderful gifts that you all donated. I am sooooo lucky to have such wonderful pals here. Thank you!

I am proud of my Dad!

This Thank you appeared in our local paper and my Dad was one of the people who helped George. I hope it is okay to be proud of him and tell about this in my diary.

On behalf of my family and myself and our beloved Golden retriever dog George, we would like to send a huge thank you to the people who were involved in helping George when he was hit by a car by the curling rink. Thank you so much to the man who stayed by George's side the whole time. Thank you to the SPCA for responding so promptly and taking him to the vet hospital. Thanks to the vet for attending him as well, we are so greatful. George was very lucky that everyone was so helpful. He was lucky that he did not break any bones, but he was pretty stiff and sore all week. He is doing well and I am sure he would give everyone a big paw shake and kiss for all your efforts. Once again our family thanks you all and we are glad we live in such a caring and helpful community. It;s nice to know that kindness and compassion is extended to our furry friends as well when they need it. We are so happy that George is up and getting sticks again.
Yours truly,
The Butchart Family
