Granddaddy, Grandmommy, being held 24 hours a day, riding next to me in the Mule, hunting for rats
Thunder--he shakes for an hour even if he hears a distant rumble; rough playing
pig ears, Chew-Eez, Busy Bones-if these can be considered as "toys"
He is very picky and must eat in private. He will eat dog food as a last resort, but he prefers eggs, cheese, and bits of meat. He's a moocher!
Anywhere in the woods so he can hunt for armadillos and rats--But...if his friend, Danny, catches an armadillo it makes Benji run for cover.( He's into the chase only.)
turning in circles when he sees someone approaching, jumping in the car and staying there until it's time to leave
We went to only LOOK at the dogs at a humane society, but when we saw Benji, we knew we wanted him to be our pet. He was a stray that was picked up by the pound, but we believe he may have once belonged to an older man since he is so calm, quiet, and loving. He prefers to be with my father--no offense, Daddy. Someone had recently cut off his tail, so he was a little "skittish" at first.
He stayed outside in a huge house and fenced in area for a while. He began to come in for short visits, but he "marked" the furniture. Now I have him just about trained not to do so. One night, he was fast asleep in my room, so I left him there. Around 1:30, he yipped to go out. He pottied, came back in, and has been in for good ever since.
He is content to sit in the same spot all day long, but he wants someone to be near him all of the time. He earned the nickname, Obby Ben, because he will wiggle and jerk around if you stop petting him while you're holding him. He is obnoxious.
He also has the nickname, Fickle Ben, because he acts like the only person who exists is the one who is currently carrying him around and holding him. If the person tries to put him down, Benji will grasp the person's arm. He even turns his head away from anyone who tries to love him if he's already being loved at the time. Once the visitors- usually his grandparents- are gone, he immediately acts like I am the only person whom he loves in the whole world. He's very fickle.
When he is outside, he is stubborn and won't leave his "dug-out pit" under the shrubbery until he is ready to leave. If he gets on the trail of an armadillo or a rat, he will not leave the trail or the burrow for hours at the time. I have had to search deep in the woods for him many times. He doesn't know when to stop. He tears through underground roots with his teeth. If I didn't eventually pull him out of the burrow, I think he would most likely hunt until he died.
Benji has been kidnapped by my parents. If you spot a couple in their 60's riding around with a spotted mutt in a doggy car seat, please notify the authorities. My daddy has always wanted to keep Benji, but using the offer to "babysit" him while my family and I went to Texas for week is a low-down trick. Benji now lives in the lap of luxury, so I guess I have to admit he's happier being the center of attention there. He's always known how to manipulate people. I have always said he was fickle.
Chasing rats(and sleeping) is my job!
