Arrival Story: I had dogs and cats when I was a kid, but growing up, living in apartments, lots of moving...for a long time I didn't have any pets. In my early 30's, I became a full-time caregiver to a disabled lady who had cats. This was wonderful. However the stress's of in-home caregiving...well, I needed a companion that I could share outside walks with,...so I went searching for a small companion dog. Read up on all the different breeds and their temparments. Then couldn't find any of the choices that I had decided on...until I stopped at my vets. A couple had just brought in a mother and six pups to be checked out.
I contacted them and had several interviews with them and was allowed to pick out two of the pups (1 for me, and 1 for my client-didn't want her to feel left out.) The father was the happiest, playful purebred copper Pekingese (14#) The mother was a 10# purebred Shih Tzu. She was more subdued, but what mother wouldn't be subdued with 6 puppies chasing you down to feed. She was grateful for any lap time that gave her a breather from her pups. I picked out the 2nd born and my client asked for the runt. Like with any new kids brought into a family...What a chore and What A Joy!

Bio: In fall of 2003, I had surgeries and complications afterwards...sadly it caused me not to be able to continue to care for Twiggy. I contacted a lady who specialized in finding good, reliable homes that would suit the personality of her charges. She took Twiggy and spent time with her and traveled with her. Before she found potential new owners, she found herself weakening and becoming very fond of Twiggy. Luckly a gentleman showed up looking for a Shih Tzu mix for his parents who had recently lost their longtime companion. I was told of all the different visits and the evalouations that everyone went through. Twiggy even went to stay with them for a week on a trial basis. Everything checked out and went very smoothly.
The only hic-cup was that the son had also fallen in love with Twiggy and the last I knew he was negoitiating with his parents trying to develop a share time plan.
The last few years my health has slowly improved, and I had started to miss my companions.
I am now searching for new companions. Will post pictures when I get them.
