Arrival Story: We were vacationing in Long Beach, WA in 2006 with our 16 year-old Cocker Spaniel (mix) Honey. We saw a notice that there were dogs available at the Humane Society for taking for walks at the beach. A local resident saw Honey, and mentioned that there was a dog at HS who looked like Honey, so we went there, intending only to walk a dog. When the people at HS saw Honey, they talked us into adopting Casey because they knew we were "Cocker savvy". He was a mess; stinky from raging yeast infections of the ears and skin, cherry eye, and black scaly patches on his rear end that I called "Baboon Butt"! He was truly disgusting, but it didn't take much talking for those dedicated people to talk me into rescuing Casey. I will always thank my daughter Darcy and her husband Chris for putting up with the stench of Casey in the back seat as we drove back home - about 6 hours!
Once home, he took some convincing that he was not "leader of the pack", - I was. He still goes ballistic when we let Murphy inside, snarling and growling even though Murphy is a Lab Cross and weighs over twice Casey's weight. Murphy defers and runs for the sanctuary of my location. Casey has learned to ignore our 5 cats, after some training. However, he does not like children, nor would I trust him around them. All in all, Casey has come a long way, and I'm glad to give him a loving home in his senior years.

Bio: I call Casey "Honey's Legacy". We adopted him because of her, and nearly one year later, to the day, we had to let Honey go to the Rainbow Bridge. She was diagnosed with cancer of the spleen in early 2007, right after her 17th birthday. When it became obvious that she was suffering, I had to make that terrible decision to put her to sleep.
Honey is gone from our presence, although she will reside forver in our hearts.
Casey is thriving, somewhat. He had to have surgery to repair his eye, rotten teeth, a bleeding wart on his head, and a golf-ball sized fatty tumour on his belly. He has been a lot of work, and cost a lot of money. Would I do it over again? In a heart beat, mine, Casey's and Honey's!
