Stealing shoes, laundry, Lexi's toys and anything else she's not supposed to have
Lexi going crazy and scaring her; not being able to keep stolen property
Squeeky teddybear and rawhides rawhides rawhides
Treats treats treats; everything edible and preferrably lots of it; she eats constantly
All around the backyard parameters checking every corner.
Stealing Lexi's Rawhide when Lexi isn't looking and sneaking away quietly with two rawhides in her mouth (hers and Lexis). Rolling over for a belly rub. Commands she masters: sitting, giving right paw, giving left paw and lying down
Bella came from a breeder, who we know, and who discontinued breeding . He wanted to find homes for his last litter of puppies and offered one of the puppies to us. We had not planned on getting a second dog, but Bella was so convincing, that we couldn't leave without her. We have not regretted it- she's adorable.
Bella was an outdoor puppy living, with her 3 siblings, on a large property before we adopted her. Maremma's are sheepdogs, bred for guarding sheep, so the love the outdoors and can be kept outdoors year around.
Bella came to us on 12 May 2007 at 3 1/2 months old. We chose the name Bella for her, since she is a purebred Maremma Abruzzi, an Italian Sheepdog. We thought an Italian name would be fitting. Bella means "Beautiful", which she is.
Bella is a very sweet puppy and quite mellow. She has this white thick fluffy fur, wonderful big eyes and the most adorable smile (she has a big unterbite, which makes her smile look very cute). When she's happy and wants to be pet, she will sit down and her tail will go like crazy on the floor with her big butt wiggling as she slides closer and closer. Hence, her nickname "Ms. Wigglebutt" :)
Bella still needs some training, but she is a fast learner, very smart and likes other people and pets . She is going to be a huge dog one day - at 3 1/2 months old and she weighed already 32 pounds. She's growing by the minute :)
Our dog Lexi is not too fond of Bella yet. Lexi ignored Bella completely for the first few days, now the play all the time and I think, eventually, the two will be best friends.
Update February 2008: Bella is now over a year old, weighs a whooping 75 pounds and is still growing ....
Update November 2008: Bella is now over 90 pounds and I think she's still not done growing - when her fur is long she looks like a big white bear - but the way she acts most of the time - she's just a little teddy bear with more strength than she knows she has!
Update March 2009: Bella has been a handful the last few months. She now wants to protect us from "everything" and barks therefore - a lot and ignores us as much as she can when we try to call her. I guess she's going through the teenager stage.
Give me food ! NOW ! Lots please !

So mommy had surgery in June and it was great for us, since she's being staying home and although she keeps a tough routine, we - meaning Lexi and me - have been getting some extra cuddly time when mommy is not feeling so great and takes a time out on the couch to get rid of the pain. She also said she couldn't do our diary update for a while since it hurt her hands. Now she's doing it again but piecemail, one paragraph at a time, saving it at a time and then adding on.
I thought surgery was a good thing, until it happened to me. I ran around in the yard a few weeks ago and then my leg hurt and I stopped using it. Mommy and daddy thought initially my knee had popped out again and would re-set itself in a few minutes, like it's done all the times times before.
You see, I have this birth defect where my knee doesn't stay in place all the time. It sometimes pops out and then goes right back in again. It's been uncomfortable for me before but it's been ok and not painful. The doctors that mommy and daddy consulted about this problem said, that there was really nothing to do about it. Surgery would create more problems than it would do good, but that I would have problems with it in the future, like possibly tearing something in that knee or arthrithis.
Now, I have to revise my thoughts about surgery being good.
It's not good. I had knee surgery in the meantime since my ligament tore at that time when I ran and my leg gave out. Now, I have to hopple around on three legs most of the time and that thing called surgery does hurt. I get pain killers, some physical therapy (whatever that is exactly - it's just stuff I have to do that I don't want to do) but I'm not myself yet.
Never thought about that when mommy had surgery, thought that was a good thing, but now I know it's not a good thing when it happens to me!
Got to lay down and get some extra TLC from mommy. I'll be as good as new again in a few months - I'm told - I hope they are right !
Bella Bella - hate not being able to chase everything! I need to get to be on all four legs again and fast !

So my hair was getting a bit wooly and tangled over the winter, so mommy and daddy thought I needed another haircut. Not that I mind having shorter hair, it's really nice, but that haircutting part I don't like so much. This time it took a wooping 7 hours at the petplace. The poor lady that was working with me must have been exhausted when she was done, so was I. I decided this time that I did not want to sit or stand but just lay down. Now - try to get my 110pound body off the floor - hehe - just try, you won't be able too :) Well the lady didn't have much success and hence she had to wait and wait and wait and try and try and try. She finally finished, but mommy noticed that she missed a few spots where long hair was still sticking out. Considering how long it took, she didn't complain. She just took a scissor at home and did some extra cutting.
So now I'm about 20 pounds lighter with all that extra hair gone, or at least it looks like it, and I look young and trim again :)

I don't like the summer heat in Florida, and I get the appropriate hair cut to keep me half-way cool - plus I like that thing called "air-conditioning".
But now it's January, and it's never been that cold here before - or so they tell me.
I have a big woolly coat and mommy says, no haircut right now, since it's cold outside, but I have to say - it's even too uncomfortable outside for me - and I am a MAREMMA !
I should be absolutely exhilerated with this weather - anything below freezing, I should be out with my sheep and enjoy it......
Well, my sheep are: My sister, Lexi, and then mommy and daddy. And none of them are outside in that cold for long. So, I lay outside for a little while and then I too, get cold, and what's the point? I go inside where it's warm and cuddly. I even sleep now on a doggy bed, because, frankly the tiles and floors get a bit cold too after a while.... oh well, I guess I'm still a Maremma and if my sheep were outside, so would I - but they are not, so why should I freeze my behind off - alone?
Bella, Bella, snoozing happily inside with a bit of heating. Who can blame me?
