Our local wildlife park has taken in the world's first Kermode bear ever to be kept in captivity! Also known as Spirit bear. There are less than 1000 of them in the world. They are very rare and endangered. This one, got too familiar with people and was relocated. It came back and continued to be of danger to human life. So, it was captured again and we got it in our wildlife park!
Clover, the Kermode Bear

Then, of interest, it escaped last night! Wow! What a panic. They did find him and brought him back. They are building him a really nice place to live.
And here is a news story about the bear's escape. We could have run into him as we hike where he was found almost every morning:

We aren't sure what they will do. They would have had to destroy the bear had our park not taken him in. He was getting too familiar with humans. A bear like that is always dangerous.
The latest plan is to build him a really nice place. Half a million dollars. He isn't on "display" until that is done.
I don't think they will bring him a companion unless a female finds herself in a similar situation.
Basically, they are just saving him from being destroyed, trying to make him as comfortable as possible, and educating people about him and other bears.
It is a tough situation. Either destroy the bear, or keep him alive in a wildlife park. Those were the only two choices. They had already tried relocating him far from humans. He came back.

Beautiful... and being safe even if it is a huge enclosure beats being dead.

Too many idiots with way too many guns.

Live and thrive Bear... to spite the evil ones...

We do totally agree it's better than killing him. He is a beauty!
