Arrival Story:
Once upon a time I was going to get a Corgi, talked to a breeder, attended dog shows, etc. I already had two dogs, both rescues, so this time I was getting a puppy. After several months of research, including a dog trainer who told me to get a Border Collie or Sheltie, I went to an AKC dog show in October. It was a cold wet miserable day - so my friends and I left. Not wanted to go home, we went to a Pet Expo at the CA State Fair Grounds. After a little shopping, we stopped into the adoption area. While wandering around, I tripped over a small black wire crate and looked down into a pair of brown eyes. Desperate brown eyes. The food bowl was knocked over, the crate was too small, and the dog and the crate were both black. Nobody could see Brown Eyes. I walked away, but came back to check a tag on the crate - Euthanize - two days extention for Pet Expo. I walked away - this wasn't a Corgi. I went back, I walked away, I went back - my friends and I went to the cat show . Several hrs went by and as we were leaving, one friend said - Is there anything we need to do before we leave? Yes - I thought - Brown Eyes. She wasn't adopted because no one realized there was a dog in the crate. They let her out for me, a skinny, skelton of a dog. Barely able to stand because of the small crate. Desperately trying to sit, walk - anything to be noticed. For $50 I bought a walking skelton - who still needed to be fixed. I didn't think she would last a month. It's now nearly 7 years later - She is happy, well fed, but still skinny. She is C-ATCH Lucy - BC/Sheltie ChSt, ChJu, Novice Versatility Award, O-NAC, O-NCC, OJC, O-TN-O, S-WV-N, O-TG-N, FDCH-S, S-BSLA, S-BTA, S-ISLA - and she never leaves my side when we are together.
