Arrival Story: On April 1st 2007 we lost our first dog, Samantha. She was my husbands dog and she was well loved. She died of old age in Scott's arms. A few weeks later our house was still feeling very empty. We watched some old home movies of Sam as a puppy and we caught the puppy bug. We researched the breed of dog we wanted, knowing that we wanted a large dog again and decided on Bernese Mountain dogs. We had to really search for a breeder and ended up choosing one in SC, a 4 hour drive.
We contacted the breeder and she had one male available. She emailed me a picture of him and I loved him immediately. We drove down to see the dog and he was happy and playful and goofy. A real show off for us while we were looking at him. My husband wasn't sure about him on the way to go see him, but one look at the dog and Scott smiled at me and I knew he was coming home with us.
Bio: Reilly is the sweetest most lovable dog there is. He has the kindest soul. I just wish he would realize just how big he really is, lol. He has endless energy and bounces like Tigger when he plays. He is very vocal and 'talks' to us. I have even noticed him talking back when we try to correct him (which is a challenge) he is strong willed but eager to please. There is no doubt he stole my heart the moment I saw him and that is just reinforced every day that I wake up and see his beautiful face.
On Monday March 17th my dad had a training accident. He was jumping out of airplanes, I know I know, but he is army and that;s what they do. anyways he landed in a tree and then fell 30 feet when the branches broke.
He dislocated his knee and cut off blood flow to his foot for 7 hours before he could get to a hospital that could do the surgery to try to get blood to his foot. He also tore all 4 ligaments in his knee.
He's out of ICU now and doing OK, but I miss my daddy and want him to get better and come home.
I had to drop out of school, mommy can't be with daddy and take me to class. I just want my daddy back.
Well last night was my first class. I was nervous and pulling mommy all over the place. I was panting and just wanted to go home. I didn't quite know what to do I wanted to do what mommy said but there were about 15 other dogs there and they were barking and jumping around. Mommy said this class is a lot bigger then Sampson's class.
Once we got in there and started I was ok for about the first 5 minutes. It was hot in there and I didn't want to do anything. After all I already know what they were teaching. Attention, sit and down. I was much more interested in all the other dogs.
I was bad and pulled and came out of my collar twice. Mommy had to grab me by my scruff and pull me back to her, then fight me to get the collar back on. I just didn't want to be there. Eventually I just laid on the floor and watched what was going on.
It didn't go well. My next class is next Tuesday night and I am not sure I want to go.
