Birthday: May 26th 2004 Likes: I'm exceptionally good catching a tennis ball thrown really far with a "chuck-it". Best thing ever invented. Mommy couldn't throw very far without this help. Pet-Peeves: Every morning mommy has to have her coffee before we go for our 1st walk of the day. B-O-R-I-N-G!!! Favorite Toy: Mommy's slippers Favorite Food: Happy Tails dry dog food mixed with freshly cooked chicken & broth. Yummy! Favorite Walk: Forest Preserve Best Tricks: I doggie-kiss mommy softly on her mouth to wake her up in the morning. Sort of a Prince Charming thing. Arrival Story: I had a 1/2 brother named Bridge and he became incurably ill with epileptic seizures and was put down when he was only 3-month's old. Mommy was so heartbroken. Her friend called my breeder, and I was sent as a replacement by airplane within 3 days. (I had a different mother, and was born 16 days later) Even though mommy was still very sad, I helped her get through it and we are together 24/7 now. She takes me in her car everywhere she goes. 6 years ago today, Mommy picked me up at O'Hare Airport and I started my new life. It wasn't too long of a flight, just from Minneapolis, but it did upset my tummy and I threw up in Mommy's car as soon as we started to drive home. I met some dogs Mommy used to live with; a Rottweiler named Ilsa and a German Shepherd named Hans. Mommy had just moved into a new home 3 days earlier, so things were pretty disorganized.
I came as a replacement for Mommy's puppy who had to go the Rainbow Bridge because he had seizures that couldn't be controlled with medication and he was very, very sick. Mommy was so crushed, I immediately went to work healing her sad heart. On that score, I'm glad to say I was completely successful.
Mommy says I'm the best dog she's ever had and things have worked out the way it was all meant to be.
I'm getting lots of special treats and extra walks today and luckily it turned out to be Mommy's day off. Mommy just happened to have the day off on my birthday last May also.
Mmmmmmmmmmm...........somebody up there likes me!
Everypup knows my forum motto is "I'm a joy machine". Well, mommy just saw a car commercial which ended "We don't just make cars. We make joy". HEY MR. MEGARICH AD MAN/WOMAN!?!?!?! How about a little credit? Where's my lawyer?
"K9 salute . . .
It's finally over. No more sniffing drugs and bulletproof vests. After nine years of service, Lakos, a Chicago Police narcotics dog, will retire Monday.
• Career highlights: He was the first cop canine to wear a bulletproof vest; his sniffer uncovered drugs and cash totaling several hundred thousand dollars, and he twice saved the life of his handler, Officer Sandra LaPorta, by fighting off attacking dogs.
• A humble note: LaPorta is retiring the same day after 31 years of service -- but she'd rather talk about her dog. "He's my little savior. He'd die for me. That's all I can tell you."
• Ahhh: Lakos will now live it up in LaPorta's backyard with his blue rubber toy"
