What a Busy Dog I Am!!!

Hello Pals!

Wow! I've been so busy that I hardly know where to begin this Diary entry!!! Lots of news to share this time, so let's get right into it!

First of all, you probably noticed that I have a brand new Summer look to my page. That's just how my Mommy is! Just when I think I have the perfect Dogster page, she gets on a kick for an entirely different look! But I must say, I really like this one. I LOVE Summer! I love when it's warm, and I love swimming. So this is a special time of the year for me. I enjoy laying out in my yard, too. And BBQ-ing with my family! The only thing I DO NOT enjoy is firecrackers in July and ANYTHING that flies during the Summer months (bees, fly and mosquitos!). Of course, with a new page comes new pictures of me. So don't forget to check out my Dogster-Plus Photo Album ... there's lots more pictures in there! But if you want to see an older picture that I had on here, I have my own website on my Mommy's site! Hers if full of recipes and things like that. Mine is all about ... well ... ME!!!! You can visit my pages at: http://cheddarbay.com/Shiloh/shiloh1.html

And speaking of my Mommy's site, she & Daddy have a wonderful project that they're working on, and maybe you and your family might want to get involved. Did you know that an overwhelming number of those horrible puppy-mills are owned and operated by the AMISH??? It's true! And being here in the heart of Amish country (Ohio ... but it's bad in Indiana & Pennsylvania, too!), Mommy & Daddy are contacting every State Representative and Senator they can think of and encourage them to support legislation that will ban these Amish-run death mills from operating. There's no limit to the number of doggies they have in these places, and sometimes their barns house HUNDREDS of dogs & puppies in small cages stacked one on top of another. These poor brother & sister dogs of our NEVER GET OUTSIDE and in fact, their little paws never even touch the ground. And once they're too old to make puppies, they're usually shot or drowned in a pond somewhere.

Well, those Amish folk don't know what they're in for until they meet my Mommy!!! She can be a WILDCAT on things like this! And I say, "GOD BLESS HER!" She's even protesting with Krogers because they sell Amish potato salad in their Deli!!! Mommy & Daddy are boycotting EVERYTHING that's Amish made, including not eatng at Amish-run restaurants and especially not supporting their lifetype by contributing to tourism. We'll just stay clear of Amish County, thank you!

It's way too involved for me to into this here on my diary, but if you want to read more about it, just go to that section of Mommy's web site at: http://cheddarbay.com/0000Amish/amish.html (I'll warn you first, the pictures at the bottom are a little hard to look at ... but the puppy-mill dogs need you!).

On a much nicer subject, I want to say a very special THANK YOU to my friend Minister Misty (# 532808) for inviting me to be a part of a very special group here at Dogster called "Light a Candle" (it's found at http://www.dogster.com/group/Light_a_candle-8427). It's a church for dogs! I had never been to a church before, but now I go every day. You can pray, light a candle or just sit and meditate for awhile. And oh, you feel SO GOOD when you leave! Thank you, Minister Misty, for touching my life with this special gift! I hope all my friends can drop in and visit sometime soon!

This is getting to be a long entry, so I'll stop here for tonight.

Shiloh

For My Friend Derek

Hello Friends and Readers!

I recently wrote in my diary asking if anyone had any information on a dear friend of mine who disappeared from Dogster. His name is Derek, and he is a beautiful, sweet black Cocker Spaniel. Along with him, his family members Natasha & Cosita are no where to be found.

On Friday, the 4th of July, my Mommy received an email from her girlfriend Linda. Here is what Linda had to share with us:

"The last time I heard from Derek, he had a bad infection from a sore on his lip that wouldn't heal. He had a compromised immune system anyway from prior abuse and infections were extremely dangerous for him. I've got a bad feeling that the last infection may have taken poor Derek out ... If I hear any more, I'll let you know...but it sure doesn't look good for little Derek."

Although the news is heartbreaking, we continue to hope for the best and we remember Derek in our prayers every night. We hope that his Mommy just got busy and felt she didn't have time to keep up with their Dogster pals. Should she ever log on and return to my page, I beg her to please pawmail me and let me know something.

Until then, we will keep a special candle graphic for Derek on my page in hopes that Derek is well and will one day come back to me, barking and smiling his same old sweet smile! I miss you, Derek ... I will always love you!

Happy 4th of July!

It's only 4:30 in the morning, and I just got up to go wee-wee. No one else in the house is up and I shouldn't be on the computer, so I have to be Q-U-I-E-T. But I just HAD to log on and let everyone know that Dogster's Dog of the Day is none other than my own wee little cousin, Morgan!!!!! I'm the first in the house to know it and I feel like SHOUTING IT FROM THE ROOFTOP!!! But DARN, I have to keep quiet 'cause if I wake everyone up, they'll be mad at me all day!

I just HAD to tell someone, so here I sit, pecking out a diary entry so all my pals would know the good news right away!

Well, I have to say that no one deserves it more than my little cousin! Of course, he's Dog of the Day with me EVERY day! I love him to pieces. He's the sweetest, most generous little guy as you'd ever want to meet. And C-U-T-E! And he's briming over with personality-PLUS! He's loved me from day one. When Mommy & Daddy first brought me home to live with them, he ran right up to me with kisses galore. After Gam-Gam passed over into Heaven, Mommy, Daddy & I moved in to live with my Aunt Linda and Morgan (Aunt Linda hadn't adopted Nico yet), and the day we moved in, I was laying in the living room floor and Morgan ran in and got his FAVORITE chew-toy and laid it right in front of me. He was giving me his beloved cookie-toy!!!

So you can see why I'm so happy that Dogster HQ has given such a high honor to Morgan. There's no doggie in the world more deserving. When the fireworks go off tonight, it's going to be like the whole world is celebrating and saying ... "HEY EVERYONE, MORGAN IS DOG OF THE DAY!!!"

But how in the heck am I going to keep this quiet for a few more hours until everyone else is awake?????

Happy Birthday, America ... and Happy 4th of July to everyone!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

Hi Friends!

Remember earlier this week when I wrote to share with everyone that I won a photo contest with one of my groups, the Dog Park PlayGround and Pawty Place? That was for the BBQ Photo contest. Well, hang on to your hats, 'cause I've won TWO more contests!!!

I also won the Summer Kickoff photo contest (also don eby the Dog Park PlayGround and Pawty Place). And then last night, I found out that I won the SummerFest08 photo contest (the Merry Christmas Dogsters & Catsters group)!!!

I couldn't be more proud than I am right now ... but not of myself! I'm proud of Mommy & Daddy who work so hard on my beautiful Dogster page!!!

And I especially want to thank all the members of these two groups who have accepted me as much as if I was in the group from the very beginning. I love you all so much, and you have each one been a very special friend to me.

For any dog and/or cat who hasn't yet joined a group yet ... but all means, DO IT!!! You will meet the best pals in all the world in the groups and you will NEVER EVER be sorry that you joined!

Wags & Aussie Wiggles,
Shiloh

Mommy tried to write to a special pal of mine, but they're Dogster page seems to be gone. I am heartbroken!

If anyone knows what has happened to Derek, a black Cocker Spaniel, PLEASE send me a pawmail. He has siblings ... Natasha and Cosita.

Derek was very special, and I will miss him so much if he doesn't return.

I WON A CONTEST!!!

I just CAN NOT believe it! I belong to a group called "Dog Park PlayGround and Pawty Place" and they have had a contest going called The BBQ Themed Photo Contest. Well, you know how mysweet pawrents are ... they are REALLY into graphics! Mommy wanted me in the contest, and she made a suggestion to Daddy that I should be standing at a grill in my photo. PRESTO! Daddy created the most beautiful fully-animated graphic for me. Mommy tagged it, and when we got up this morning, we had a group paw-mail that told us I HAD WON!!!

This is TRULY a thrill, and I just want to thank all my pawsome friends at the Dog Park Playground for bestowing such a great honor on me!!! I will be receiving a star on my Dogster page, and my picture will be on the group page!!! I feel like a celebrity!!! Or in the words of Sally Field-Spaniel ... "you LIKE me, you REALLY like me!!!"

Be sure to check out my special BBQ graphic and see the other deserving contestants by going to the group photo thread at: http://www.dogster.com/forums/group/thread/528437 . Every one who entered is, in my opinion, a winner who could have been given the prize. So I humbly accept on behalf of ALL my pals over at the Playground.

Mommy says that I must always remember to "stay humble", but I think I'll go bask in the glory for just a few minutes ... I don't think a Frosty Paw would be TOO much to expect for such a winning day, do you?

Shiloh

Feeling Much Better Today

Hi there!

I thought I'd update everyone about my ear troubles. I'm feeling so much better today! I'm not having to shake my head around (which was giving me a headache anyway!) and my ears aren't running any more. Mommy managed to get a little bit of the drops in my ears before I decided that I'd had enough! Mommy can be pretty persistant, so I'm sure she'll be back for more later.

Also, the emergency clinic ran a heartworm test on me last night (since I'm a heartworm survivor). They called today, and I'M HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!!! YIPPEE!!! Just one year ago this very week, I was in the middle of my second round of my heartworm treatment, and now here I am STILL heartworm FREE!

I'm feeling good and looking forward to a lazy evening in front of the TV. There's been a few "Plus" advantages with this ear infection ... Mommy's been MUCh more generous with the Canine Carry-Out Bacon Strips and Milk Bones!!!

More later ...

My Visit to the Emergency Vet!!!

June 17th 2008 8:11 pm

What a night this has been!!! At dinner time, I began feeling extreme pain in my right ear. It hit me all of a sudden, and I was rolling on the floor and trying to dig way far down into my ear. Mommy & Daddy didn't know WHAT was going on, and my Aunt Linda said that I needed to be seen at the vet's office right away. But my regular vet wasn't in today, so the only place who could see me was the emergency vet. So ... off we went!

After taking all my information, I was finally taken to a back room. It was small and scarey. I didn't like it very much. The only thing good I can say about it was that at least I was away from all those other dogs in the waiting room. Some of THEM need to work on their social skills!!!

A vet-tech was the first person I saw. She took my temperature (with a thermometer up my behind ... HOW humiliating!!!). And then she took some blood from my paw. I was nice and still for that, and she said I was the best patient she had seen all day! Well, while she was in there, she gave me a manicure. I don't usually like that, but I tolerated it.

Then it was time for the big cheese ... the doctor! But this was a lady vet, and she was pretty nice to me. At least she talked really soft and kind. But then she came at me with a swab and tried to put it in my ears. She said it was for a "smear" to see what kind of infection I have. I didn't handle myself so well when it came to that swab thing!!! But she got enough to be able to put it under a microscope and see what's going on. It was an infection alright, and I needed to have my ears cleaned and then begin a treatment of ear drops.

Well, so much for the cleaning! I was doing back-flips and wouldn't let them get anywhere even close to my ears with that bottle and gauze!!! The tech who was helping called me "Kangaroo Legs". Well, what did she expect? After all, I am an AUSSIE!!! And Australia IS home to the Kangaroos!!!

Moving on to Plan B ... the doctor gave me two shots and sent us home with a big bottle of ear-drop medicine, and Mommy has to put it in my ears TWICE a day for 14 DAYS!!! I think I'll be better when Mommy tries to do this stuff to me.

And now it's 11:00 pm and we're just getting home. Not the most enjoyable way to spend a night. But my ears sure feel a whole lot better! I'm getting real, real sleepy now. It must be the shots they gave me. So I'm off to beddy now. I just wanted to share my ER experience with everyone. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with the whole thing. When Mommy said we were going to the ER, I was hoping against hope that George Clooney would be my doctor! Darn!!! I guess he wasn't working tonight!!!

Hi to all my friends!

When I wrote earlier, I was keeping a secret that I was DYING to share! And now, I can finally tell it to you all!

As I mentioned, we went to Dog-Fest yesterday and saw many, many adoptable dog and puppies. My Aunt Linda has been looking for a brother or sister for her dog, my cousin Morgan. Well, yesterday their dreams came TRUE!!!

We went to a booth called "Moore Love", and Aunt Linda spyed the cutest, sweetest little male Maltese that she'd ever seen since Morgan! I have to agree, we ALL fell in love with this little creature! His name was Hercules (can you imagine?! For a MALTESE?!!) Anyway, Aunt Linda filled out the adoption paperwork, and after we got home last night, the foster-Mom called and let her know that she would be down TODAY (Sunday) for a home inspection.

She arrived this morning, with Herc in hand, and did the walk-through inspection. That was that! He is now officially a member of our family, and Morgan is THRILLED to have a little brother! Of course, a new name was needed immediately, and it was decided that he will be "Nico" from now on!

You can meet Nico at his brand new Dogster page! He is Dogster ID # 799555!

Now, if I can just figure out a way for Mommy & Daddy to get ME a little brother or sister. Hmmmm ....

My Visit to Dog Fest

June 15th 2008 5:48 am

G'Day! It's Shiloh here, with more adventures to share!

Here in Southern Ohio, they hold what is called "Dog Fest" every year at this time. And yesterday was my VERY FIRST time to go there with Mommy & Daddy. They wanted to go last year, but I was smack in the middle of my heartworm treatment. You've heard of "sicker than a dog"?! Well, I WAS! But this year, I'm healthy as can be, so off we went ... Mommy, Daddy, Aunt Linda, cousin Morgan and ME!

When we first arrived, I couldn't believe my eyes! I've never seen so many doggies gathered in one place at one time in all my life ... not even at the VET'S office! Well, I could smell that wonderful scent of food being grilled out, so I knew I wasn't at any doctor's office! We started at the entrance gate, and every few feet we stopped at what Mommy called a "booth". It was really like a box with people sitting inside each one ... people who were either giving out things (pamphlets on dog care, Frisbees, neckerchiefs, even Milk Bones and other snackies for me and Morgan!) or else they were selling ALL KINDS of things (leashes, fancy collars, pet toys, you name it and they had it!).

There was even a couple of these booths set up by RESCUE organizations (people from PAWS and other groups like that). I saw so many doggies (older ones as well as puppies), and my heart broke for every last one of them. I wish every dog there will be as blessed as I have been and find their furever home ... someone to love them as much as Mommy & Daddy love ME! If people only knew how great rescue dogs can be, they'd snatch us ALL up in a minute! But I just keep praying for those who haven't yet found their humans. And I just have to believe in my heart that one day, they will!

It was fun meeting so many new dogs. I saw many Aussies, and one that even looked a little like me (well, not to brag or anything, but Mommy says I was MUCH prettier ... head down, blushing slightly). I even met an Australian Cattle Dog who does search and rescue work! WOW! What an honor to meet him! And I saw Poodles and Westies and Scotties and TONS of Dachshunds (made me think of my brother Rudy up at the Bridge) ... and my favorites were three Bulldogs all from the same family! They were SO CUTE!

We were there several hours, and I'm sure glad that Aunt Linda was carrying bottles of water for me and Morgan 'cause it sure was warm. But it was a beautiful day for the Fest and there was a nice breeze, so I can't really complain. But once I was home later in the afternoon, I sure was beat! I layed down on the cool tile floor in the kitchen and went right to sleep!

Mommy gave me something to help me to not overheat (she's SOOOO thoughtful) . She freezes Gatorade (the orange kind) in ice cube trays and gives me that when I'm getting hot and tired. It really helps to get me through the more hot moments, and it's good for me, too! I always say, if it's good enough for my beloved Florida Gators then it's good enough for me! (GO GATORS!!!)

I have some news that I'm SO ANXIOUS to share with all of you! But I can't do that until later today. I'm sworn to secrecy by my Aunt Linda! But the news is big ... REALLY BIG! So I'll log back on later this afternoon and spill the beans!

It's a pretty special day around here, as it is all across the country ... FATHER'S DAY!!! And I hope that all of you who have Daddys have remembered to do something special for them. My Daddy LOVES to bake, so I got him three new cookbooks (one on Cakes & Pies, one on all kinds of desserts and one is the new Paula Deen special magazine on chocolate ... a real no-no for me, but Mommy loves it). And then I found a DVD for him of an old movie that he's been trying to find for YEARS! But I found it in a DVD catalog and ordered it for me over a month ago (I'm sneaky that way!). He was so happy! And when I think about what all Daddy does for me, then it really warmed my heart to see him so happy when he opened his Daddy's Day gifts from me!

So although I'm celebrating with my Daddy today, I also want to send out extra-special Daddy's Day woofs to my boyfriend Sully's Dad, Clark! He's the sweetest man in the world (next to my own Daddy, of course!) and I love him so much. So HAPPY HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, Clark! I love you true blue!

I hope YOU remembered to do something wonderful for your Daddy! But if you didn't, it's not too late! It's still early here (not even 9 AM yet), and it's even earlier if you're out on the West coast! But even if you have no money to spend on them, you can still make their day special by giving them extra licks and special snuggle time. Daddys try to act tough, but I've learned that they can be just as much of a softy as Mommys! Just do a little something for them and remember ... it's all about them today!

Happy Sunday to all! And remember to check back later for the big news I have to share!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

A Package for Me!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH!!! The mailman just came to our house. He had a package, and it was addressed to my Mommy from my boyfriend Sully's parents. They sent Mommy a birthday gift! But that's only PART of it!!!

Inside, there were pressies for ME , too, from Sully!!! I got a Cookie Monster chew pillow!!!! I am so excited! I danced, I played, I took it right to my chair to play with it!!! Then Mommy pulled the camera out and took my picture (she just posted it here on my page). I LOVE MY NEW CHEWIE!!!

And Sully also sent some chewable treats for me and Morgan. They're called Pegetable Celery Treats, and they look just like a stalk of celery! I'm going to get that tonight, and Mommy says that she thinks she'll smear a little peanut butter on it (my Daddy LOVES peanut butter on celery, so maybe I will, too!).

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you to Sully, Linda and Clark! This is my FIRST-ever package in the mail (you were also my first letter in the mail ... my birthday card back in May!). How can I ever thank you enough?!?!

Gotta go play with my new toy now!

Happy Wags and Playful Wiggles,

Sad News to Share

Hello Friends,

I was really looking forward to this weekend. It's Summer, and I LOVE that. PLUS, Monday is my Mommy's birthday, so we wanted to celebrate the whole weekend. However, we received some very sad news ...

Back on May 30th, I learned that one of my pup-pals, a gorgeous Aussie named Lacey (Dogster 536390) had passed away. We were all so sad around here. Lacey was so beautiful and even though she had a nice long life, we're never ready to let those we love the most slip away from us. I try to keep in touch with her sister Annie (a Golden Retriever, Dogater 533245) as much as I can and let her know that she's in my thoughts and prayers, and loved very much.

Well, I was just coming to terms with losing Lacey, when I got hit by another blow. On June 1st, I heard from another very dear and precious pup-pal, another Aussie named Cali (Dogster 299976) that she had a malignant tumor on her anal gland. She was 13 years old, and her vet said she might make it six months to a year. I prayed and prayed for her, but it just wasn't to be. I learned yesterday that Cali crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I was so down when I learned the news. But Mommy explained to me that Cali was like my brother Rudy ... all the pain is gone now, and they happy and running free with all their friends at the Bridge.

I will never ever forget Lacey or Cali , two of my best friends. And their crossing has taught me something very important ... our prayers are always answered, just not always in the way we want them to be. I wanted Lacey and Cali to be healed. But as it turns out, they ARE healed ... FUREVER healed. And they're happier in Heaven than they even were here on earth with all their friends. And one day, many years from now, I'll join them there at the Bridge and we'll all be together for always.

Another thing I've learned from losing my two friends is to really, truly appreciate the friends I have so much more while I still have them! Like my bestest-ever friend, Sully. He's not been feeling good and hasn't ate well for the past week or so. I don't think it's anything really serious and I'm sure he'll feel better soon ... but I really just need to let Sully know how much I love him and how much he means to me. I think that's a lesson we could ALL learn ... love your friends the best you can, and don't wait until it's too late.

Well, I have to go now. LOTS to do around here before Mommy's Birthday party Monday night. So I hope everyone has a PAWSOME weekend. And hey, remember to let a special friend know just how much you love 'em today!!!

Shiloh

Blueberry Muffin

Hi Everyone!

It's been a fun week around here. On Sunday, we celebrated my cousin Morgan's 9th Birthday! He's a little boy Maltese, but his nickname is Cuppycake. And Strawberry Shortcake is what his Mommy uses to decorate his things at home AND his Dogster page! We had wonderful time at Morgan's party ... cupcakes & ice cream for the humans and Frosty Paws for Morgan and me! Of course, the theme of the party (plates, cups, etc.) was STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!!!

MY theme here at home is Strawberry's friend, Blueberry Muffin. Mommy calls me Muffin a lot, so she thought it would be a nice addition to my page to change my background and add some graphics of Blueberry! Right now, she's done the background, so be looking in the future for more Blueberry Muffin graphics and pictures. YEAH!!!

I've been invited to be a part of another Dogster Group. This one is called Pets for Obama, and it's FUN! Especially since I'd already done several political-themed photos on my page.

We sure have been celebrating the birthdays around here. This weekend, it's my Mommy's birthday (but I'm not allowed to tell you how she is! Let's just leave it at this ... Ike was in the White House when Mommy was born!!!)

It's raining cats and dogs here right now, so I'm going to go look out the window and watch the rain falling. Hope everything's going great with all my pals!

Happy Memorial Day to All!

This is Shiloh again, and I'm excited to have a long holiday weekend. Mainly because that means Daddy is home for FOUR DAYS with Mommy & me and doesn't have to work (he needs a rest like this every once in awhile).

But the main reason I'm so excited about it is because I'm a real patriotic girl, and this weekend is all about honoring our American heroes who have done so much for all of us. Even though I'm an "Australian" Shepherd, I'm all American thru 'n thru! I'm not only a TAIL waver, I'm a FLAG waver, too!

My human Pap-PAW (Mommy's Daddy) served in the BIG ONE ... yep, WWII! He was a Seabee with the US Navy. He contacted something in the Philippine jungles that went into his bloodstream, and although he died several years after he was home from the War, it was still the War that caused his death. So Mommy always takes flowers for his grave on this day (he died when she was only a little girl). And this year, I get to go with her!

I hope you'll notice that my best guy (Sully) and I have a new graphic just for Memorial Day. It's our little way of saying "THANK YOU" to all the wonderful men and women who have served our country in the past or who serve still today.

So far, it's already been a really GREAT weekend for me! Yesterday, Mommy, Daddy, Aunt Linda, cousin Morgan and I attended a DOG SHOW (my very first!). It was the Buckeye Associated Specialty Clubs Dog Show and was up in Hamilton at the Butler County Fairgrounds. What a time we had!!! We saw ALL KINDS of different doggies. Afghan Hounds, Boston Terriers, Poodles, Dachshunds, English Setters, Chihuahuas, Schnauzers, Basenji, Shelties and even another Aussie! And guess what? I made a new friend ... a beautiful white Standard Poodle named Bailey! He was GORGEOUS!!! And we exchanged hugs and kisses.

I hope everyone of you gets to go on a picnic today or tomorrow. That seems to be a real tradition among humans for Memorial Day Weekend! And since they're held in the great outdoors, we canine family members get to attend, too! FUN, FUN, FUN!!! It's also a tradition to bring food items to these picnics, so it looks like a good time for me to add another of my favorite recipes! This one is for Cheese Flavored Dog Biscuits, and I think you'll really LOVE them! So get in there with your folks in the kitchen and whip up a batch to take to your family outing! And let me know if you like them!

Again, Happy Memorial Day to all of you! And God bless the USA!!!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

CHEESE FLAVORED DOG BISCUITS

1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup margarine
1 cup boiling water
1 cup cornmeal
1 tb. Sugar
1 to 2 tsp. chicken or beef flavored instant bouillon
cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
2 to 3 cups all-purpose OR whole wheat flour

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease cookie sheets. In large bowl, combine rolled oats, margarine and boiling water; let stand 10 minutes. Stir in cornmeal, sugar, bouillon, milk, cheese and egg; mix well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition to form stiff dough.

On floured surface, knead in remaining flour until dough is smooth and no longer sticky, 3 t 4 minutes. Roll or pat out dough to inch thickness, cut with bone shaped cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely. Store loosely covered. Makes 3 dozen large dog biscuits or 8 dozen small dog biscuits.

Happy Birthday to MEEEEEE!

Hello Pals!

First of all, I want to thank everyone who sent me wishes, rosettes & cards for my THIRD birthday yesterday! What a day I had!!!

I woke up to my Mommy & Aunty singing the Happy Birthday song. Okay, so they're not Celine Dion ... it's the thought that counts! Then Mommy checked my Dogster account. I had received pressies!!! A beautiful birthday cake from my boyfriend Sully, a cupcake from my cousin Morgan and birthday hats from my friends Socks and Derek.

From there, things only got better. I received an early morning pet massage and then took a nice nap on my favorite living room chair. Around noon, the afternoon mail arrived, bringing me a SINGING birthday card from Sully! He knows how I LOVE country music, and this card played a Johnny Cash song ... I Walk the Line!!! YIPPEEEEEE!!!!

Soon it was time for my Daddy to get off work, and since Mommy had kept the car, she let me ride with her to pick him up. I LOVE THAT!!! Then it was back home, and time to PAW-TY!!!! My favorite part of that, of course, was getting to eat Frosty Paws and then a Gourmet Doggie Cookie ... YUMM-O!!!!!

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, IT DID!!! More pressies!!! I opened my gifts, and you won't believe what a haul!!! Mommy and Daddy gave me a Kong treat-ball. I've wanted one for SO LONG!!! Aunty Linda gave me a Happy Birthday Cake Kong ... I've never seen one before!!!! It's SO NEAT!!! And my cousin Morgan gave me two neckerchiefs that will attach to my collar when we go out. One is red with a baseball design, and the other is of my favorite college team, the FLORIDA GATORS!!! Mommy took pictures of my party and also one of all my gifts, so check them out in my Dogster-Plus Photo Album.

Again, thanks to EVERYONE who helped to make my special day even more special. I love birthdays, and I love ALL of you, too!

Home From the Pet Fair

Hello to all my readers ...

What a day I had today! Mommy & Daddy and my Aunt Linda took me and my cousin Morgan to the Pet Fair. We left way before noon, and spent the entire afternoon there. I met many other dogs (some breeds I had never seen before).

This was my very first Fair, and it's one that the College Hill Pet Clinic puts on just for us dogs. I received LOTS of attention (I don't think I've EVER been called pretty that many times before!). Mommy filled a shopping bag with FREEBIES for me ... chew bones, magnets, coupons for food, a training clicker and she also did some birthday shopping for me (more on that in just a second!).

One of the highlights was meeting two cheerleaders for our Cincinnati football team, the Bengals. These girls are called BenGals, and even though I thought they were gorgeous, they actually came over and said how beautiful "I" am!!! I was so humbled!

We had a beautiful sunny day here for the Fair. Not too hot, but not cool either. Just perfect. I think everyone who came out for the Fair had a GREAT time. And I hope to meet lots more of you on Dogster there next year!

I've posted a couple pictures of today's event ... but you'll have to go into my DogsterPlus photo album to see them. I have too many pictures on my front page, and the new pictures can be found in the photo album.

"SOMEBODY" has a birthday tomorrow. Any guesses? It's MEEEEEEEEEE!!! I turn three years old tomorrow. And I can't wait for my birthday party!!! I saw Mommy wrapping gifts after we got in tonight, and I'm so excited!!! PLUS, my cousin Morgan and I will get Frosty Paws and Pet Gourmet cookies at the party tomorrow!!! I only wish my boyfriend Sully could be here for it. Then an already special day would be a perfect day! But I know he'll be thinking of me, and in a way he WILL be here ... in my heart.

Tomorrow night, I'll write again and tell you all about my birthday! And when I make my birthday wish, I'm going to wish that every dog in the world was as happy as me and had as good a home as I was blessed to find!

Love you ALL!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

Hello Friends!

I'm off to the Pet Fair in a little while, but first I wanted to log on and tell everyone about a wonderful new friend that I made this week.

I was cruising around Dogster, like I always do, and I somehow stumbled into the page of Mo (Dogster ID 229846). I read, I wept, I rejoiced! Mo is a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, and what a story he has to share!!! To cut to the chase, Mo now has the most wonderful Forever Home and Forever Family as you could ever imagine. This page is up-lifting and inspirational, and I would recommend that everyone read this PAWSOME story!

Great news from my best guy Sully ... his friend and neighbor Socks got to spend the night with him last night. Socks sure has it rough, but Sully (and his parents) are always there when he needs them. I'm keeping a prayer vigil for Socks ... that maybe one day soon he can live with Sully's family for ALWAYS. Kudos to Sully, Linda & Clark for doing all they can until then.

Between Mo and Socks, it really makes me stop and think of how lucky most of us are to have families who love us and keep us safe. It also makes me sad to think that there are still millions of our brothers and sisters who haven't found their Forever Families yet, so we need to keep working to do all we can for these little lost souls.

Gotta scoot for now!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Hi ... Shiloh here! And this is a weekend I've looked forward to for a long time. Tomorrow is the 11th Annual College Hill Pet Clinic Pet Fair!!! And it's open to pets, so I GET TO ATTEND!!!

If you live in or near the Cincinnati area, you sure don't want to miss this one. It's the biggest event of the season! Over 1000 people attend and there's a full afternoon of touring the entire hospital, over 50 pet related specialty booths, K9 agility demonstrations, music, face painting, food and so much more! It's family fun for everyone!!!

So don't forget ... that's tomorrow (Sunday, May 18) from 12-4 PM. If you need a map, go to their website at:

http://www.collegehillpetclinic.com/index.html

Now for something very serious. You've all probably heard by now about Senator Ted Kennedy being taken to the hospital this morning for what they first thought was a stroke (later up-dated to two seizures). Let's all put our paws together and say a special prayer for him. I'm not a political dog, but I always appreciate a dog-lover, regardless of their politics. And Senator K is a true dog lover! He has two beautiful Portuguese Water Dogs named Splash & Sunny (Splash has even written a book called My Senator and Me), and I heard on the television that he was with them when he had the first seizure. So let's remember him in our prayers ... and also, let's whisper a special prayer for Splash and Sunny, who must really be missing their beloved Teddy while he's in the hospital.

Did you notice that I've added some new pictures to my site? We pulled out the digi-camera today and got some nice ones. I'm a little camera shy, but they turned out nice and I'm happy that I posed for them.

Hope everyone's having a GREAT weekend!

Time For Frosty Paws!

Hello Readers!

It's been such a nice day here today. Nothing special, just lounging around with Mommy and waiting for Daddy to come home from work. All-in-all, just my kind of day!

Tonight, I was given a special treat! My bestest and dearest friend Sully has told me about Frosty Paws. My folks have looked at every supermarket around here, but couldn't find them. So my Mom just Googled for a recipe for them, and she made them for me tonight! I had TWO whole cubes, and there's just one word for them (if this is a word) ... mmmmmmmmm!!!!!

So for all of you who can't find the real-deal at the store, here's a recipe that I highly recommend! Enjoy!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

HOMEMADE FROSTY PAWS:

· 1 quart vanilla yogurt
· 1 medium banana
· 2 T peanut butter
· 2 T honey

Puree the banana in a food processor or blender (actually, Mommy used a hand-held mixer). Add the peanut butter and honey and continue processing until smooth. Add yogurt and process just long enough to blend all ingredients together. Place 18 small paper cups (bathroom size) in a baking pan (one 9x13 or two 8x8 work well). Fill paper cups to about 2/3's full. An ice cream scoop or a measuring cup makes the job easier. Freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen treats to zip-lock bags for storing in the freezer. (Here again, Mommy didn't have those tiny paper cups, so she filled a bunch of ice cube trays and when they were frozen, she popped them out into a ziplock bag so I can enjoy them any time I want!).

I'm a Model!

Hello all readers ..

In all my (almost) three years, I have never been so honored and so humbled! My Mommy's sister, Linda, is an artist. She has some of her artwork on her son Morgan's page (http://www.dogster.com/dogs/530899). Recently, she did the most beautiful portrait of me! In the large picture, I am a working dog ... herding a flock of sheep. But Mommy scanned just the section featuring me for all of you to see. And now it's here on my page (see above, or go to my Dogster Photo Album). Isn't it GORGEOUS?!?!?! When we have time, we'll pull the digi-camera out and get a full-length shot of the entire portrait. But for now, I'm just happy to be able to share this much with all of you.

It's been rainy here ... RATS! I don't get to go out for my daily walkies when the weather's like this. I DO NOT like having my routine disturbed! But hopefully Spring will finally SPRING, and I'll be out and about more.

I did get to go for a ride in my Daddy's car yesterday. But therein lies a tale! Let me first go back to earlier in the day, when I got in a bit of "trouble" (yes, again). I was nosing around the bathroom and came out with a bar of soap (the brand shall go un-named) in my mouth! I managed to eat about a third of it before the long arm of the law (otherwise referred to as Mommy) wrangled it away from me. She didn't buy my plea that I had said a bad word, and cousin Morgan was washing my mouth out with soap! Oh well ... back to the car ride story. I was in Daddy's car for nice outing. We went to Lowe's to pick up some supplies, then he stoppped to get some gas. After listening to him complain about having to pay $3.70 a gallon for that, we were back on the road again. Suddenly, I felt the ill after-effects of the soap mishap, and before I could say "roll the window down", I had thrown up all over the back seat! Oh, the humiliation of it all! The ride home went much quicker. When we arrived, I was taken inside and Daddy gathered bucket, towels and spray and returned to the scene of my crime. But what good parents I have! They never scolded me (knowing it wasn't my fault), and it wasn't mentioned again the rest of the evening.

So my advice for all my readers today ... no matter how tempting it is or how much it resembles a piece of Divinity, STAY CLEAR OF SOAP LAYING ON THE BATH TUB RIM!!! It's just not worth the price you'll later have to pay!

Have a wonderful weekend, and WOOFS to you all!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

Tagged Again!

May 5th 2008 5:25 am

Hi, Everyone!

Guess what? I've been tagged again by my very best friend Sully. This tag is a little different, so I think we'll all have fun with it.

Everyone who gets tagged tells three things they've done to help dogs, or any furbaby. You list them in your diary, then tags seven friends and tell them to go to your diary to see how it's played.

Well, here goes mine!

1) Mommy and Daddy are really involved in several organizations which help all kinds of animals (dogs and others). They have worked with the League of Animal Welfare, the ASPCA/Humaine Society, The Cincinnati Zoo, and organizations which help preserve the tigers and cheetahs. They also belong to The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, which helps elys who have been mistreated and abused in zoos or circuses. They've adopted an elephant named Sissy! We all love her very much, and think of her as a member of OUR family, too (even though she lives at the Sanctuary). And whenever they hear of an animal in need, Mommy fires off letters to any elected official she can!

2) Mommy and Daddy have been foster parents several times. They have had a slew of Yorkies and other kinds of Terriers in their home, and Dachshunds, too. When Mommy worked, anyone who found a dog (or sadly, wanted to get rid of their own) knew to bring it to my Mom because she would work tirelessly until she found a GOOD HOME for it! Plus, my parents adopted my older feline brother Oliver (a Turkish Van cat), who had gone to the Rainbow Bridge before I came to live here (he was 17 years old!), and they saved my older brother Rudy from a puppy mill (he went to the Bridge last August), and most importantly, they adopted ME from a place of real neglect! So, I think my parents are TOPS when it comes to helping animals everywhere!

3) Mommy lists Aussie Rescues here on my Dogster page! So anyone who wants a wonderful pet like ME can visit these sites and maybe find their own forever fur-child!

Remember ... You only need to enter three things you've done for other animals in your diary and Tag seven friends and tell them to visit your diary and read your three things and how to play. This sounds like a fun and neat way to get to know each other. Please play along.

Furbabies I Tagged:

1) Morgan (Dogster ID: 530899)
2) Morgan (Dogster ID: 483198)
3) Gypsy (Dogster ID: 361035)
4) Gwenivere (Dogster ID: 370785)
5) Kymber (Dogster ID: 286543)
6) Mrs. Emma Peel (Dogster ID: 159163)
7) Rudy (Dogster ID: 530883)

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Hello Gals & Pals,

If April Showers really DO bring May Flowers, we should have a full garden any day now! It's been cold and rainy here for the past week. Today, it wasn't raining (but I think it had been because the grass was really drenched when I went out the first thing this morning). I'll be happy when Summer officially arrives in June. But in the meantime, I'm just really going to enjoy the month of May!

I'm sorry I haven't been able to write for the past few days. It's been a whirlwind around here. I've had so much on my mind. Some of my friends have been having health problems ... Nikaya's clothesline accident, Faith Lynn's depression over Nikaya's disappearance from Dogster, Hannah's heartworm treatments and my best pal Sully getting sick on his chewy-hoof toy. I've had A LOT on my mind! But everyone seems to be doing okay now (or at least better). What a relief! Of course, we still don't know anything about Nikaya, so we'd better not ease up on our prayers there. I know Faith Lynn appreciates it, too.

May has some holidays in it, and I'm excited about that! Cindo de Mayo, Mother's Day and Memorial Day weekend! I really love holidays! And I'm most especially looking forward to Memorial Day because that means that Daddy won't have to work and he'll be home for the whole four day weekend with me and Mommy! That's the weekend we're going to a big Cincinnati Dog Show! No, I'm not showing in it, but I'm allowed to go! It's at the Butler County Fairgrounds, and Mommy says it's always so much fun. This will be my very first time to go!

Another important holiday is coming up tomorrow ... May 1st. Well, maybe not a national holiday, but it's pretty big! It's the birthday for my best friend Sully's Daddy!!! So I want to wish a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend, Clark! Not only MY friend, but a true-blue friend to dogs everywhere! Love you!!!

That's all I have for now. Woofies to you all!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

I'm Tagged Again!!!

Hello again! Shiloh here. Another day of fun and activities!!! This morning, Mommy & her sister, my Aunt Linda, took Morgan and me for a very long walk! I think it would have been longer, but a rather large, rude dawg approached us, teeth bared. His owner pulled him back, and they went the other way. But we headed home after such a nerve-wracking experience.

Then came the late afternoon, and Mommy loaded me up in the car. I thought we were just going for a ride, but we went to Daddy's work to pick him up! Oh my, that was such fun! I had to hee-hee when I saw the surprised look on Daddy's face and he said, "There's my girl" ... right out loud in front of all his co-workers! What a PROUD moment!

Well, guess what? I got tagged again! This time by my best friend, Sully. So let's keep this going!

Here are the rules:

Each player needs to tell seven random facts about themselves. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 facts. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

1. I DO NOT like my crate! I hate when I have to be put in there.

2. I love shopping at Petsmart. They are so nice to me!

3. I have developed a taste for Pupperoni treats!

4. I am becoming more social! I seem to get along with every dog I meet!

5. I love to listen to music. Mommy puts it on when I have to be alone.

6. Now that it's Spring, I love going for walks (and rides in the car, toO!).

7. I have a BOYFRIEND ... Sully!!!

The seven pals that I choose are:

Adagore Spartacus (Dogster Id: 207168)
Suzy Q (Dogster Id: 79716)
Lily (Dogster Id: 461443)
Wonton (Dogster Id: 774874)
Chopsticks (Dogster Id: 774882)
Entwistle (Dogster Id: 72457)
Amy (Dogster Id: 715968)

I Went to a Party!

April 22nd 2008 7:59 pm

What a day I had today! It started out in the usual way ... a quick trot outside to do my business, back in to lounge around, followed by checking my Dogster messages. Then Mommy outfitted me in a brand new harness and leash! I liked it better than my collar. It doesn't pull on my neck (or I guess I should say, it doesn't hurt my neck when "I" pull).

Then the fun really started! Mommy, Daddy and me got in the car with my Aunt Linda and her "son" (a Maltese named Morgan), and we went to our local Petsmart! I LOVE THIS STORE!!! Unlike Kroger, I'm allowed to go inside this store and do my own shopping. They have all kinds of food, treats, balls, dog shirts, even my beloved Kongs in every shape and size!

Well, today was even MORE special at the Petsmart because they were having a Birthday Party!!! I think it was the anniversary of their store or something like that, but I got treats and got to participate in a High-Five contest. When Mommy gave me a treat, I was supposed to give her a high-five. That didn't go so well, but at least I got to eat the treats, even without giving paw! And I even got my picture taken with Mommy (Daddy was still out in the car, so he missed out on that). I even got a goodie bag filled with chewies and a bandana and a coupon book to save me money on my next visit!

I met all kinds of other pets. There was a big black standard Poodle, and a Bichon Frise, a Puggle (half pug and half beagle, I think) and many others. And I made three new friends!!! They caught my eye as soon as they walked in. Three Chinese Crested, and I really liked them! I'm a little shy, but they came right up to me, and before I knew it, we were pals! Their names are Wonton, Ti-Ti and Chopsticks. I asked Mommy to tell their parents all about Dogster, and by the time we got home, they had signed up and had sent me a pup-pal request! So please check out my pal list, and visit their pages! You'll see how beautiful they are.

And look above (or go to my Dogster photo album, also above) to see the picture of me and Mommy taken tonight at Petsmart. I'm was going to frame it and keep it next to our bed, but instead I think I'll give it to Daddy so he can have a good picture of his girls together.

It's been quite a night, and I'm really beat! So I think I'll go on to bed now. But of course, I won't go to sleep until I say my special prayers for my bestest friend in all the world ... Sully. And for Sully's other good friend, Socks. Sully had a rough day today and wasn't feeling quite himself. I hope you'll all join me in whispering Sully's name in your prayers tonight! Thanks a bunch!

Wags & Wiggles,
Shiloh

Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

1. I LOVE to play in water, but hate to go out in the rain (go figure THAT ONE!).

2. I can't get enough pizza (even my snacks are pizza flavored!).

3. I had heart worms last year because my first owner didn't put me on Heart Guard. Mommy & Daddy spent LOTS of money to make me well (that's how I knew I was so loved!).

4. I am a bed-hog ... I will steal every last blanket for myself.

5. I hate to be left alone (I'm even more spoiled now that Mommy stays home with me all day).

6. I am really very shy (but getting better).

7. I love having my ears rubbed, and I usually go to sleep with Mommy or Daddy rubbing them for me.

Rainy Days and Sundays

April 20th 2008 4:50 pm

Hello to all!

I actually thought the song was "Rainy Days and MONDAYS", but either way, they don't get me down!!! It was a strange day here. First sunny, then showers of rain. I suppose it's just a typical Spring.

The day started off GREAT for me! I opened my Dogster page to discover that my good friend Sully had sent me a flower! (Thank you, Sully ... I LOVE YOU!). But with the good comes the bad, and I found myself being crated for approximately two whole hours! But it was so Mommy and Daddy could go to church, so they had a good excuse.

I hope you enjoyed my last posting with the special recipe. Today, Mommy added a graphic of my favorite toy ... A KONG! I have them in blue and red, but have to admit that my large red one is still my favorite. I usually have just simple treats in there (Milk Bones and the like). But I stumbled across a WONDERFUL new treat, and I thought I'd pass it along to all my good pals here at Dogster. Being a country girl at heart (even though I now live in the city), I love ELVIS! I guess I fell for him when I first heard him sing "Hound Dog." So this Kong delicacy is dedicated to the ONE, the ONLY, the KING ... ELVIS!!!

THE CHEESY ELVIS:

Combine a ripe banana, 3 spoonfuls of peanut butter and a slice of cheese. Mix until blended well. Fill the Kong.

Now a note about Kongs and the stuffing. Some people say to freeze the stuffing, but some vets and breeders do not recommend this unless the recipient is a puppy, in which case the coldness helps with teething. Being a grownup now, I don't need the extra chill.

Also, just remind your Mommy (or whoever has KP duties at your house) to clean the Kong between messy treats. They're dishwasher safe, but a good swipe around the inside is helpful with removing the sticky stuff that hides in the rim.

Well, I'm off for a Sunday night of watching the telly and playing with Kong. Happy "stuffing" to you all!

A Recipe From Chef Shiloh

Hello to one and all. It's Saturday, and that usually means baking day here at our house. Mommy & Daddy bake things that I can't have (baked goods that have things like chocolate, nuts and raisins ... DANGER DANGER for a dog!).

Therefore, I have had to begin baking my OWN goodies. And since all my friends check out my beautiful Dogster page, I'll share some of my favorite and best recipes here in my diary. So keep checking back!

My first offering is for Cheddar Cheese Dog Biscuits. YUMM-O!!! Try them out and let me know what you think!

As they say on TV ... Love & Best Dishes from MY Kitchen to YOURS!

"Chow", Baby (hee hee!).

Wags, Shiloh

*****CHEDDAR CHEESE DOG BISCUITS*****

5 lb. flour
2 c. brown sugar
1 stick margarine
1 can Cheddar cheese soup, undiluted
2 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. salt
4 c. warm chicken or beef broth
4 eggs

Mix all ingredients, kneed until smooth. Roll on a floured surface--about 14 inches. Cut into shapes (dog biscuit cutter), brush tops with mixture of beaten egg and 1 T. milk. Bake at 325° on greased baking sheets for 45 minutes or until tops are golden brown. Biscuits should be frozen or refrigerated if kept longer than 3 to 4 days.

I'm with Dogster Plus!

I'm so excited! Just when I thought Dogster couldn't get any better, Mommy joined Dogster-PLUS for me!!! Now she and I can visit all my pup-pals and leave little messages ... (the best part!) GIFTS!!! It might be a bone or a rosette, but I'll be able to let all my friends know just how much I love 'em!

It's been a lazy day today. Quite an improvement over yesterday, when I got into a little trouble over chewing up a quilt on my parents bed. YIKES! If it was THAT important to them, they should have kept it out of reach!!! Oh well, Mommy FINALLY forgave me, and even bought me treats later in the day. Pizza flavored treats (my favorite!).

Got to be off now. Daddy will be home soon, and that means DINNER TIME!!!! YIPPPEEE!

Chat with you all again soon.
