Arrival Story:
Isabel was brought to the Washington Animal Rescue League when she was days old, and named "Wynonna" upon arrival. I had volunteered there previously as a dog walker, and finally had an apartment in which I could have a pet, so tore up to bring one of the dogs home. She was tiny, skinny, stank of pee, and was chewing on her reluctant cage-mate's ear. (It was a mercy to both of them when she was removed.) It was love at first sight, particularly when she tottered off on her twiggy legs to take on the Christmas tree in the corner. After being driven home - throwing up from one end of Washington to the other - she was promptly gifted with the most expensive toys, puppy shampoo, and airline crate that money could buy; the latter of which she caterwauled her way out of and then adopted as her toilet. Winona Ryder had recently been on trial for shoplifting, and Wynonna Judd arrested for DUI; so the first thing to go was the name. Hurricane Isabel had passed through the DC area the week after she was born, and with a trail of soggy carpet left in her wake, 'Isabel' it was! I realized that this would be a lifelong love when I went home to Ireland for Christmas and left her with a pet-sitter - I called from the transfer lounge for hourly updates. She's part of me now (due to the amount of dog hair ingested, probably literally).

Bio:
Ten things about Isabel, by Isabel: 1 - I have a crush on Ahnold, the pit bull in "Entourage." Rrrr! 2 - I once ate a half-pound of butter in under two minutes, then was sick for two hours. 3 - I would render the car undriveable by removing a vital part of the engine if I could only reach under the hood. 4 - I love to chase seagulls at the beach, but if I ever actually caught one... I'd wet myself. 5 - Mommy says I am smart enough to go to canine Harvard... 6 - ... which she says can be annoying at times... 7 - but I want to go to Georgetown and be a Hoya like her; I think the bulldog logo is cute. 8 - CNN is left on for me when I'm home alone, so I am surprisingly well-informed about the situation in North Korea. 9 - I used to use Mommy's shoes as chew toys until she caught me one day and screamed for fifteen minutes; I never did it again. 10 - But I might. Shhh!
