After quite an eventful summer, during which I learned to swim (love it!), stayed at a kennel for a week while mom was on vacation, visited my brother in Pennsylvania, and had all sorts of fun, I've moved apartments. I don't live ni Gramercy anymore. Mom says we live in the "financial district." Now we live in a huge building. It has 25 floors and 5 elevators. The lobby has doormen who say hi to me every time I pass by and marble floors and walls. I'm getting used to the apartment. It's bigger than the old one and is cleaner and lighter. There are lots of windows and I can actually sit on the bed and look out one of them! There is a long hallway from the front door to the living room that I like to launch myself from. The other day I cleared the futon by running down the hall and flying over the back of it. My people were impressed.

The neighborhood is very different. The buildings are really big and the smells are different. I'm distracted every time I go out to go to the bathroom. There are new dogs as well. I'm kind of grumpy meeting them which I know upsets mom. I should try to be nicer. We're close to the water. Mom and I have been running along the East River. It smells salty. I think I'm going to like it.

I'm at my mom's mom's house since she went on vacation. Today I stole a stick of butter off the counter and ate the entire thing.

A new year

Wow. A lot has happened since I last wrote to you all. I went with my mom to Pennsylvania for the holidays. Since she wasn't with her sister and mom over Chanukah, we celebrated on December 23. I got so much new stuff! I got a kong treat ball, a soccer ball called the "K-9 Kicker," a new fleece jacket and shoes, a matching collar and leash by some designer named Nicole Miller, and two food bowls that sit in a metal stand on top of a placemat. I'm finally civilized.

I was having a lot of fun being home with Dillon, my mom and aunt and grandmother until last Tuesday when they took me to the vet really early in the morning. Then they left me there! Many hours later, I woke up and my stomach was hurting very bad. I looked down and had 3 stitches! Mom says I got spayed and that it's for my own good. I also had a little pain in my shoulder where they, get this, put a MICROCHIP under my skin! How sadistic. I was not feeling well at all when they brought me home that night. But by the next day I was goingt to the bathroom and hobbling around. I got chicken and rice with chicken broth for a whole two days so maybe this "spaying" was worth it. While I still have my stitches for another week, I'm feeling 100% back to normal.

Aren't I pretty?

Look at my new picture! My mom got me (fake) pearls at a party she went to. Don't I look beautiful? My mom's friend says I look like an old lady (like Barbara Bush maybe), but Mom thinks I look very ladylike.

I'm going crazy! Since I hurt my leg I haven't been able to play at all. Mom won't let me run or jump and I can't go to the dog park or the playground. I have so much energy. My leg is so much better too, I swear. You can see my ankle again now that the swelling has gone down. I'm getting better, really, mom. Please can I play, pleasepleasepleaseplease?

Injured!

Yesterday wasn't such a good day. We went to the dog run as we do most mornings and I played and was having a pretty good time. But then, I jumped up on one of the people benches and when I tried to get down, the toes on my back right leg got caught between two slats. As I jumped, my toes didn't come free and I twisted my leg horribly. It hurt so bad! I cried and cried and my mom felt around to make sure nothing was broken. But I couldn't walk on it. I could tell she was worried and felt awful. She had to carry me a lot of the way because I wouldn't walk. By the time we got home, my ankle had swollen up to the size of a golfball. That really worried Mom. So she called the vet and we raced in at 9:15 in the morning. I stayed there all day so that I could be x-rayed and treated accordingly. It wasn't broken!!! Thank goodness. The vet and his helpers put hot and cold compresses on my leg to make the swelling go down and I got an injection of some pain meds that made me feel very relaxed and happy. Mom picked me up after work and I ran to her. It was so good to see her. By that time, my leg was feeling a lot better and I could touch my toes down to the ground. We walked home from the vets, Mom on two legs, me on three. It still hurts a lot so I'm hopping around on three legs most of the time, but I think I'm on the mend.

Also, Mom signed me up for pet insurance. If you're an accident prone pooch, tell your parents about insurance. It'll save them a lot of money if you get hurt.

The Chase

This morning my mom was in an especially good mood for some reason. It's probably because I walked and heeled pretty well on the leash on our way to the dog run. When we got there mom was especially pleased with me when I started RUNNING so early in the morning. I think she wants to make sure that I don't have too much energy pumping through me when I'm home alone in my crate. Sam and I played a lot again.

Then the scariest thing happened on the way home. I was minding my business, trying to heel and be good when this plastic bag drifted across the sidewalk in front of me. I jumped on it but mom said "leave it" and tugged on my leash. Being the good puppy that I am, I left it. But then all of a sudden the bag WAS CHASING ME!!! It grabbed on to my right back foot and kept following me! It was so weird. Mom started laughing, of all things, when she saw the look on my face. I couldn't see what was so funny seeing as her puppy was being attacked right in front of her. But then she bent down and got the bag to lay off. Phew. Maybe now I'll think twice about attacking other bags since they can attack me back...

Yay! Tomorrow I get to go to Pennsylvania to visit my mommy's mom and sister and Dillon, my pit brother. We're going to wreak havoc on the house. We'll tear around the family room in circles and bark and growl. It'll be great. I can hardly wait. Plus I'm sure I'll get some BARF food since Dillon gets that everyday. My mom hasn't had the time to make any raw food for me yet. Someday, I'm hoping.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Lazy

This morning I think I really pissed my mom off. I was kind of tired so I just refused to walk! Aren't I clever? She kept trying to encourage me forward and I just put my head down, dug my heels in, and stayed put. She was really mad at me. She was so mad, in fact, that as punishment, she clipped my nails. Can you believe that she clipped my nails at 7:30 on a Monday morning? I wasn't too happy. But I guess she wasn't too happy with me either.

I think that I'm more of a couch potato than I realized. My brother Dillon is always "bed surfing" from one bed to the next. I never understood what the appeal of laying around was all about. But after laying in bed with my mom this weekend, I'm getting quite used to it. Mom lays there reading and I snuggle down under the covers or rest my head on her shoulder. It's very cozy. I don't think she realizes that I'd much rather hang out in bed than go for a long walk to the dog park. She should be happy, right? Don't all humans like to sleep in, especially on Mondays?

I guess it's about time that I started sharing my adventures. For the first four months of my life, I lived in Pennsylvania with my Mom's mom. (You know, until I learned some bladder control and some basic manners). But now I'm in my permanent residence in New York City! I've been here for about ten days and my mom is really tiring me out. Every morning we go to the dog park and see the regulars. Sam, Shana, Henry, Harry and a whole lot of others. This morning when we went, it was 35 degrees out and I was cold. (We pits don't have much hair to keep us warm). I've asked Mom to put my blue sweater on me for tomorrow's excursion. She thought it was a little funny to put sweaters on pit bulls, but Shana was wearing a light pink jacket with silver piping and she's a pit so now Mom says it's okay. (I would have made her put the sweater on me no matter what though).

Tonight I'm planning to take it easy. My mom has a work dinner she needs to go to but that's fine because I need a rest. Last night when we went to the playground I ran so hard and fast that my paws got a little bit raw. I need to rest them a little. So Mom, go out. I'll stay in and relax with your roommates.
