Prelude from Buster's Mom.
This is the hardest story of all for me. A dog as brave as Buster should have survived his couragous deed to bask in love for many more years.
Instead, because of his love of his family, & unstinting selfless courage, he died a terrible angonized death in my arms.
He will be loved till I join my family beyond the Rainbow Bridge, & forever after I do.
Sharon Pribble - & here he is to tell it from his side of the bridge.
Oh my, what an intro. I was doing my job Mom.
Found in the street I was. I got dumped there because I wsn't pure bred.
Mom's dad found me wandering in traffic in downtown Los Angelas.
I think I was about 8 months old. Maybe a bit more. I don't remember much before that pickup stopped & the big man picked me up & put me in the truck.
He took me home with him. It was nice. I got fed table scraps that night cause they had no dog food yet.
I lived with the Pribbles all my life from then on.
I got in trouble cause I liked to pull sheets off the line & run around the yard with them.
I also liked to get out & run around the neighborhood now & then.
Mom just followed me till I got tired, then snapped on my leash once I let her catch me, & led me home.
When I'd been there a couple of years, Mom's grandparents brought Teddy to join us. He was a nice pup. He was about 5 or 6 months old when he arrived.
Man was that pup car sick.
We got along fine from the start. Teddy never got the least bit uppity like some little dogs do.
When I was about 8 & a half, we took a real long car ride & got out in a very strange place.
Trees, wow, never saw so many. Mom said it was a forest. Guess so.
1 day before Dad (Mom's & mine both) was to go back to L.A. We were all out in the yard. The humans were talking in a clump, & I saw this big grey bug with a lot of legs heading for them. UGLY!
I knew that thing was up to no good! It was headed right for my family!
I got it! Afraid it got me too. Just above my lip. Never felt such pain.
Mom was running toward me yelling. "NO!" But it was too late.
My mouth was sore. Burned. I soon couldn't see very well. I went over under mom's trailor & laid down. Got hard to breath. Couldn't move. It burned like fire all through me.
Last thing I heard was mom crying.
I woke up on the bridge. It's nice here on the Rainbow Bridge. I can run & play all I want. There are lots of nice dogs to play with here.
