Arrival Story: Ever since I can remember, I have loved dogs. I used to crawl on the floor like a dog and fetch sticks at the park. I wanted a dog so badly, that I used to pretend I had an imaginary dog. He had a real collar, leash, dog bowl...you name it, he had it. I would walk my imaginary dog down the street and talk to him all the time. People thought I was CRAZY, but I didn't care what they thought. I desperately wanted a dog. The first time I discovered the German Shepherd was when I was only seven years old. My Granddad Roger from England raised and trained German Shepherds for the British Police Force. The mere mention of a German Shepherd was enough to fully capture my attention. I didn't just fall in love with the breed's beauty, but boy are they GORGEOUS! I love everything about the German Shepherd, from their personality to their physical strength. I fell in love with the breeds undying loyalty and devotion to their owners. Their intelligence is unmatched and they are versatile dogs. German Shepherds are courageous and extremely powerful. They possess the ability to part crowds and turn heads anywhere they go. I remember begging my parents for a German Shepherd of my very own, but my plea fell on deaf ears. I remember saying that I would get a male German Shepherd and his name would be Blitz. Eighteen years, and twelve months later, Kaine found me. I had to wait so long for Kaine, but I am glad I had to wait. We were meant for one another and I couldn't imagine a more perfect puppy. I met Kaine when he was four weeks old at a breeder's house in Scottsdale, AZ. There were ten puppies in total and I knew Kaine was the one, because the moment I set eyes on him, he looked at me with those big blue eyes and gave this mesmerizing and unblinking stare that I will always treasure. When I held him in my arms, he fell asleep and I felt a connection, a force that was so magnetic, it could only be called destiny. I brought him home when he was 6 weeks, 2 days and we have been inseparable since.
Bio: Kaine is a 2 year old German Shepherd Dog. I brought Kaine home when he was only 6 weeks, 2 days and we have been inseparable since. He has taught me so many things in the short time we have been together. He has shown me pure love, devotion, and loyalty. He is the most intelligent and handsome dog in the entire world. Kaine is my teacher, my companion, my protector, my inspiration, my angel, my heart dog, my hero,my world. Kaine isn't "just a dog," he is my best friend and I love him with every beat of my heart.
I have been training Kaine on my own since we started our lives together in 2006. Our training is based on trust and the science of how dogs learn. We use positive reinforcement (a reward is added to increase the likelihood that the behavior will be repeated) and clicker training combined with negative punishment (a potential reward is removed to decrease the likelihood that the behavior will occur again) and management.
As a result of our positive training, Kaine received his AKC Canine Good Citizen Award on October 27th, 2007. Kaine was the finalist for "Owner Look Alike" in the 1st Annual World Wide Fido Awards which aired on Nick at Nite October 5th, 2008. Kaine recently earned his Novice Trick Dog Title (NTD) from the Trick Dog Trainers Association on June 6th, 2009. On Sepetember 8th, 2009 Kaine won 2nd place in the Dog Trick Academy's 100 point challenge.
Kaine is such an intelligent dog and he loves to learn. One of our favorite ways to spend time together is to learn a new trick. Trick training improves Kaine's confidence and is mentally stimulating. Tricks strenghtn our bond and they improve Kaine's overall body awareness. Learning tricks also keeps Kaine's body agile and greatly helps with agility.
Kaine teaches me something new him everyday. He is the one who inspired me to become a dog trainer.
Having a German Shepherd is the BEST. They are loyal, intelligent and sensitive to your feelings. If you have been inspired to get a German Shepherd after watching Kaine's videos, be aware of the responsibility you will be taking on. German Shepherds are working dogs. They are extremely active dogs that need lots of attention. They tend to bond to only one person (making it harder for them when you leave them alone), they are NOT outside dogs, they need EXTRA socialization, a minimum of 2 hours of physical stimulation combined with mental stimulation, every single day, for the rest of their lives.
On that last note, we wish you the best of luck in your training.
Happy Clicking!
