Best Tricks: Opening Doors! Arrival Story: We had been wanting a puppy for years now, but we had a 12 year old Dalmatian in the house who is our baby. We didn't want to upset her by bringing in another dog. We had it narrowed down to a few breeds (purebred or mixed). We had been visiting the new pet store in town a whole lot and the Italian Greyhounds always seemed to get all of our attention. He had been there a while and we kept stopping by to "LOOK" at him. Well, on Monday April 2nd 2007 we actually "HELD" him. That was it for me ~ he came home with us that day :-). He's been a lot of work, as all puppies are, but he's one big sweety and he's already found a place in my heart. He's going to be a great dog, I can tell :-).
I love my little man! Bio: Although nobody here on dogster has given me a hard time about this, I feel the need to explain. I know what some people must be thinking when they see that I got Caper from a pet store. I can not say that I regret getting him, because I love him more than life itself, but I do realize the error of my ways. I was ignorant about puppy mills. I thought puppy mill dogs came from old run down pet stores, not national chains. We did ask the pet store if they bought from puppy mills and they assured us that, no, they did not. We have now come to realize that they don't DIRECTLY buy from puppy mills, they buy from a middle man who buys from puppy mills . . . . . so in essence they are "telling the truth". Although, we are not 100% certain this is the case with Caper, we can not find any info on the internet for the name given to us as the breeder. I would like to think that Caper's poor parents are not locked up in a filthy kennel somewhere, but I fear this is not the case and it breaks my heart that there is nothing I can do about it and that I may have actually contributed to that. All I can do now is love the dogs I have, adopt in the future and continue to spread the word about puppy mills to as many as I can. With so many stories in the news and new changes being made because of it, hopefully, in the very near future, these horrible places will be a thing of the past and these precious little angels will not have to suffer any longer and the greedy heartless people of the world will have to pay for their actions. i am 2 years old today. i've been getting treats all day and i love it! birthdays are pawsome!
also, i got my gift from my secret santa today ~ it was ladra and bugsy!!! i just love those two iggies! they gotted me a real nice blue sweater with bones on it. it fits perrrrrfect and it's keeping me real warm cause it's very cold in tx right now! anyway, mom is taking some pictures of me in it and gonna put them up on dogster real soon cause i sure do look handsome in it (that's what mom says anyway BOL)!
