Arrival Story:
Blueberry was a rescue in some ways. The neighbor had a registered red Doberman named Nisha, who attracted Blueberry's sire, a purebred Catahoula named Stopper. He visited and she had three puppies. A red leopard, a black and tan, and the runt, Blueberry. They were going to put the puppies down because they weren't purebred, but they were so cute that they decided to find homes for them. When I saw the heat lamp on inside the doghouse I knew I had to ask for one of the puppies. I had loved both Nisha and Stopper who were neighbor dogs that I had taken care of and played with, Nisha was the first female to whelp that I had every watched give birth. So when I called to see if they were alive and if I could have a puppy, I was told yes. I was really surprised my husband let me have her because we had two small dogs and he felt that was enough, but he didn't hesitate. He knew how much I loved the parent dogs. I didn't even get dressed, I went over in my housecoat to see the pups. I chose the runt, Blueberry but it was a hard choice between her and the little red leopard. They told me she might not live and they would hold the other until we were sure. At five weeks I got a call to come get her and I did. We carried her in our arms to go see some indian ruins and hike, that very weekend. From then on our life took on greater fun and meaning. We had a hard time naming her at first but one day as she sat looking up at me with that cute little look she had, I said.. you look like a Blueberry muffin to me.. and I laughed, for I had found her name. As long as she lived her name brought comments and laughter.

Bio:
Blueberry was our constant friend and companion. She worked our cattle, went on hikes and horseback rides, traveled with us everywhere and was our protector. She slept with our son and was his best friend growing up. She died with my husband and I both beside her on October 15, 1988. We sorely missed her and she was our introduction to the breed we grew to love so much
