Arrival Story:
I put out word (via the connections I have in Canadian dog rescue) that I was looking for a new pup to work with as a potential Service Dog. I also mentioned that my preference would be for a Greyhound or Greyhound cross. I had a long list of "must have" traits, as well as "not acceptable" traits. After several months, I had a response from a lady in Alberta... she described Thora, then only two months old, and she sounded like everything I could possibly hope for. Ground transport (relay style) was arranged, and she was here by the time she was three months old. I cried when I saw her for the first time. She was so beautiful, so perfect... I was completely overwhelmed.

Bio:
Thora is pronounced Tor-ah... and she was named for her big brother she never met. Thunder was a retired racing Greyhound who died on October 31, 2000. Cancer claimed him much too soon, he was only eight. Thora is the feminized form of the norse word for Thunder - so it was only appropriate that she be named in his honor. Unfortunately Thora never made it as a Service Dog. While she loved to train, and has a large repetoire of Assistance tasks, she was just too excited to work. She loved it sooo much that she was quite high strung in public access situations. She didn't start to settle down until she was almost five, but by then Brandi and I were a full fledged working team. Thora continues to be my "demo dog" though, and loves to show off her special talents whenever she has the chance. She'll always be my baby girl.
