Arrival Story:
Sammy went to the pound when his human went to jail. The human, if you can call him that, was supposed to be "boarding" Sammy and was supposed to pick him back up. When the human got out of jail, the pound contacted him several times, each time he said he'd come get Sammy. He never did. My mom has wanted a dog for years and finally she was able to get one. She went to the pound to find a dog and wanted Sammy. The nice folks at the pound decided that Sammy had been in jail long enough and let mom adopt him.

Bio:
Sammy lives with his mom, my mom, in Anacortes, Washington most of the time. He loves taking walks and living with someone who is home all the time. Sometimes Sammy has to live with me, when mom goes on vacations, like a two month cruise to Asia last year. Sammy loves mom, but he thinks I'm a pretty great sis. He only writes in his diary when he is visiting me.

Forums Motto:
I want to go!

Eyes:
Sammy has two different sized eyes. He doesn't appear to see very well, and his vision is definitely going. We're not sure which eye he can see from, and maybe he does see from both. He can be a bit snappy if you startle him and he didn't see you coming.

Cats:
Sammy doesn't mind cats. In fact, Sammy's plan for life is to just ignore them. He pretends he doesn't see them, and viola, no cat troubles. My cats do not like dogs, but they like Sammy. I'm sure the ignore technique has saved his nose lots of scratches!

Fur:
Sammy has very long and thick fur. Mom shaves it in the summer because, like her, he gets too hot. He always gets a shave before he comes to visit me in eastern Washington as its much hotter here, too hot for Sammy.

Dogs:
Sammy doesn't like other dogs much, especially not male dogs. Sammy does like certain female dogs, especially Cheyanne, an older female black lab who he considers his girlfriend. Sammy likes to stay at Adam's house visiting Cheyanne. Adam says this is because Sammy gets treated like a DOG and he likes it.

Cars:
Sammy likes to ride in the backseat of the car. When Sammy sees mom packing her bags she has to put Sammy in the car while she packs because he is afraid he'll be left behind. Poor Sammy!

Coyote Attack1!!!

Sammy's mom (and my mom) just sent me this email today....

Let me tell you about Sammy's scary adventure, and mine. Last Thursday night at ten o-clock I put the dog out before going to bed and he was in the front yard. I was standing at the front door with the porch light on as Sam came up the steps I was talking to the dog, when out of no where this coyote came up the steps looked at me grabbed Sam by the scruff of the neck and ran off. Sam was screaming and I was screaming the coyote took Sam down into the field across the road. They were out of view of the street light so I could not see them but Sam was still howling and I was calling. Suddenly I little shadow began to move in the darkness. It was Sam! We Ran home together to shake and catch our breathes. Sam was bleeding about his mouth and he has a couple of wounds but he is going to be all right. The first day after the attack Sam didn't want to move because he hurt but today he is moving well. He still can't jump up into a chair yet. It is a miracle that he survived. At ten I put Sam on the leash to go out and he refuses to go it dark and He is afraid so he waits until morning.

Sammy is still quite traumatized even today, three days later. Mom thought that Sammy died in the night Thursday, Sammy wouldn't wake up Friday and it took a long time for him to move at all. He has puncture wounds in his neck and is extremely sore but is better today, Sunday. He had gone into shock and mom held and rocked him and tried to comfort him. Poor Sammy!!!! My mom was at the door of her home and Sammy was two steps from the door of the home. The coyote came right up the steps of her porch and was almost to the door when he took Sammy. Mom, who is 70 years old, ran after Sammy and coyote in the dark after him. Good thing she walks 1.5 miles a day. Please send your positive thoughts in their direction.

Sammy's Mom2

Here I am at Mom Two's....

Wow, I haven't been here since last summer and I was pretty scared at first. Mom and Ed drove me all day long in the car, and that part was okay, but when we got to Mom2's I couldn't tell where I was. I'm getting more blind and I couldn't see that I'd been here before. Mom2's voice sounds so much like Mom's that it didn't take too long for me to remember being here before. She has more cats now. Sid doesn't pay much attention to me, but Pete sure likes me. He scared me at first, he likes to sneak up to me, hold me down, and lick me to death!!! I feel bad that sometimes I don't see he's there and I growl at him when he surprises me. Luckily he doesn't really seem to mind.

I can tell that Mom is going away. Mom & Mom2 are impressed that I know, but they aren't as subtle as they think. Mom has been packing bags again and talking about our sister, Jane. I think she's going to visit her. Mom2 keeps looking at me, so I keep looking at her. Luckily I like Mom2, too, she lets me sleep on the bed.

Well, gotta go, time to sleep with Mom & Ed before they leave....
