I have just returned from a long day at the groomer's salon; my favorite place to go (said in the most sarcastic voice I have). I got the FURminator deshedding package, along with my ears cleaned, nails trimmed, and teeth brushed. I must admit, I look and feel much better. But.. I could think of better ways to spend my day

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene hit the east cost pretty hard this past weekend. We were out of water and electric for two days, but luckily, my family saw no major flooding or damage. I know many folks were not as fortunate as us. I work at a pet resort/boarding facility; seeing the heartbreak in each owner's eyes was devastating. Of course, they were in good hands with us, but I can't imagine the feeling of evacuating my property, and on top of that, not being able to take my babies with me! I'll continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers, I hope the rest of you will do the same

Today, exactly four years ago, I adopted "the world's greatest dog." I feel as if I didn't rescue her, she somehow rescued me.

I have to list 7 things about me in this diary

1. I'm a boxer husky mix. I came from a big litter, but only 3 of us looked like huskies. Both breeds are easily seen just by looking at me. I have the markings of a husky, I'm very slender, carry my tail the same, and I love to talk (arrroooo). However, I walk like a boxer, it's very apparent in my hind legs. I have the same floppy ears and jaws, not to mention those cute little wrinkles on my forehead

2. I'll be two years old on december 25th. I'm growing up too fast!

3. I love my brother Spunky, we like to cause trouble together. I was smaller than him when I was a puppy, now I tower over him. It's great being younger, and bigger!

4. The cats love me, I've made friends with all of them now. I'm like their big teddy bear

5. I can't just wag my tail, my whole but insists on wagging too

6. I'm mom's shadow, where ever she is I'm trailing behind. She gets mad when I lay under the computer chair though, she's afraid she'll step on me. I sure hope not

7. And after owning 5 boys, mom was ready for another little girl

Mommy Scared Me!

Today started out normal. Mommy gave me breakfast, took me for a walk, then went on with her day. I was looking out the window, watching the car pull in the driveway when she got home. I patiently waited by the front door. But when the front door opened, it was much to my surprise. "That can't be my mommy.." I thought to myself. "When she left this morning, her hair was blonde. Now it almost looks black!" I started barking, and backing up. I was actually convinced it wasn't her until she said my name, and then I recognized her voice. She better not do that to me again!

And they say us dogs are color blind.... BOL!

2. I honestly believe me and my mom were brought together by fate. I mean, come on. She wasn't even looking for another dog at the time. But I guess when your just browsing the internet, one link leads to another

3. I LOVE learning new tricks and I'm very loyal to my owners. I know how lucky I am to be here, and I will do anything to prove that!

4. My nickname is "doodle bug," just one of many that I have

5. I have trust issues -- I don't like strangers or being left alone for too long. Mom says, I was born parinoied :(

6. I'm a true outdoors girl; love relaxing by the water in the summer and playing in the snow during the winter

7. Everything is food to me. I will eat until I get sick if given the opportunity. Bad habit, I know

My Forever Home

Today brings back memories for me. It's been exactly one year since I have been living in my forever home. I'm so glad my mommy came and got me from that lonely shelter. I'm so happy here, I can't imagine my life any other way!

Introduction

Hi, my name is Dixie Mae, Dixie for short. I was born on December 25, 2006, a Christmas blessing. I was adopted from Animal Relief Fund in Hollywood, Maryland on April 7, 2007, about 3 months later. I'm a boxer/husky/mix, formally known as "Ava." I'm just one of many from my litter. I was 3rd to be adopted. I honestly believe me and my mom were brought together by fate. I mean, come on.
