Arrival Story: Three months before I found Kali, my 15 year old Cocker Spaniel, Tara was euthanized due to extreme kidney failure. I was devastated and very depressed. I NEEDED another dog in my life, as soon as possible. I searched area shelters and couldn't find the companion that was the right fit. While browsing on the computer one day, I GOOGLED "Dog Adoption" and came across the Petfinder.com website. I did numerous searches over the next two weeks and then my heart leaped! I had found my dream girl, Kali...a 5 and a half month old puppy. She was discovered wandering on the side of a country road in Northern Quebec and taken to a high kill shelter. A rescue group called "Take Me Home Ontario and Quebec Dog Rescue" brings highly adoptable dogs (from Ontario and Quebec shelters), by truck to Mississauga and places them in foster homes where their profiles are put on Petfinder for potential adopters to see. It was love at first sight and I emailed the rescue group and a week later, drove 3 and a half hours to Mississauga to meet Kali at her foster home. Because of the distance I had travelled, I was allowed to bring her home that day. She was spayed later in the week and has turned out to be the most wonderful dog! She is gorgeous..mesmerizing, ice blue eyes and completely trustworthy in the house all day. She is wonderful with the grandchildren, patient with the little ones and loves to play tug of war with the older ones. The only problem that I ever encountered with Kali was a language barrier. I never considered that coming from Quebec, she would only know French. I would speak to her and she would only cock her head to one side...she didn't understand what I was saying? Being the smart girl that she is, she picked up English very quickly. She is a true gem!

Bio: We discovered that Kali LOVED to play with other dogs and dayboarded her once a week for "playdates" at her groomer's kennel. We decided that it was time to get her a permanent playmate so again we went to Petfinder.com. to find her a friend. On Oct. 27/06, we adopted Barney from the Stratford OSPCA, as a "brother" for her. He is a wonderful 2 year old black lab. Little did we know that she would think she is his Mother instead. She has taught him proper dog behavior and gives him a tongue bath every morning as soon as she wakes up. They are inseparatable.
