Leave a bone for Jack London, NPC

Special Gift Box:

Nicknames: My mom and dad can get pretty silly with names: bannana peels (my ears), stinky paws (my Native American name), yellow lashes (mom's favorite), fart monster (dad's favorite), spotty nose, maniacal eyes, fettucinne, peppy, sweet pea, pupster, Jacksies...

 Quick Bio:
Likes: I like to run, play chase, play with other dogs for endless amounts of time, play tug-o-war whenever possible, play ball and frisbee, playcare, taking naps on the couch with mom and dad, visiting grampa and grandma, treats and more treats

Pet-Peeves: I am not fond of loud noises, mechanical noises (the evil vaccum cleaner, dad's electric razor, etc), being surprised or startled, large stick like objects (e.g., the evil swifter mop), and absolutely detest water unless there is some peer pressure, cats

Favorite Toy: Anything squeaky and fluffy that I can methodically shred (mom says I have "terrier teeth"), destroy and spread all over the house. Nylabone for extreme chewers and Kong (the one you can fill with peanut butter) are great! I also love ball and tug toys.

Favorite Food: I like all food but peanut butter, cheese, the occasional recees pieces, raspberries, cooked chicken breast and beef are some of my favorites!

Favorite Walk: I don't like walks as much as a good run or chase, so I like large open areas like nature walks, dog parks and the dog beach. Walking around the block with mom and dad is sometimes okay but they tell me that I'm a "puller".

Best Tricks: I can jump really high to catch objects in mid-air, and mom says I'm pretty through with shredding up my bed when the opportunity arises, high-five, high-ten, shake

Arrival Story: *Parental edit: After my husband and I got engaged, we decided that we were ready for a dog. We regularly visited/volunteered at the local shelter and checked its website everyday. One day we saw a new arrival and there was something about him--besides being intrigued by his nose. My husband went to meet him as soon as they opened the next day, and just fell in love with his personality. He immediately called me at work and said we have the perfect little guy for our family, and we were delighted when the shelter staff approved our application! He came home after his neuter surgery/recovery and changed our lives forever.

Bio: *Parental edit: Jack was born on November 3rd, 2005. He is what you would call a purebred mutt! The vet believes he definitely has some sighthound (most likely whippet) among multiple other breeds on which you are all welcome to speculate (we always love a guess). He was surrendered at the Champaign County Humane Society, Illinois right before he turned 5 months old. The shelter personnel told us that he came from a physically and emotionally abusive environment. He was extremely underweight and very skittish/anxious around humans (especially men). He doubled his weight in less than a week at the shelter and he also started to open up after a few days there. Fortunately for us, we saw him at the shelter's website the day they decided he was adoptable!
At first, Jack had lots of separation and anxiety issues. He did excellent in his beginner's obedience class. He was also relatively easy to potty train and he took very well to crate training. To our relief, he plays very nice with other dogs. He started to become more relaxed around the time he turned one, and everyday we see an improvement! He is a much different dog today, but still as ridiculously loving and naughty as the first day. Also, he has an extraoridinary love-hate relationship with cats.

Forums Motto: Of course everything is a race!

Favorite Naughty Of All Time: One day I escaped from my double latched crate and tore up/broke whatever I could find in the living room, unrolled and tore up a roll of "poopy bags", got into a box of Cheerios and ate the whole thing, unearthed and ate mom's favorite house plant, broke dad's favorite coffee mug, tore up the blinds, and lastly, peed on the carpet. That was a fun day (minus the time out and the dirty looks afterwards).
All Time Favorite Things: FOOD, hanging out with mommy and daddy, playcare where I get to play with lots of other dogs, and RUNNING!
Weight: 53.6 lbs (I barely make the 51-100 cut off!)
