Little Sister was adopted from an animal rescue. The photo with the blue background was posted on the web, she looked so fun and eager to play. Katie weighed six pounds, brittle hair and sparse too! We think that she was outside and never allowed inside for the first years of her young life. Kate-Kate would peel dead worms off of the sidewalk, eat snails. I never thought about how much food people leave on the ground having dropped it, set it down and then forgot to pick it up until I started walking with Litte Sister. Katie found a whole cooked chicken breast in the grass at the park. She found a See's dark chocolate almond cluster on the ground at the outside mall where we walk in rainy weather.
Katie won't wear her doggles anymore! So glad that I took her photo when she was happy to wear her sunglasses. People would pull up beside us at lights and point to her and show their kids the dog with the sunglasses on. Everyone would laugh because she looked so cute but I guess she was embarassed. One of the kids at our "dog walkin" park told me that she was a "COOL CHICK".
My favorite story about her an my friend's black chow-chow named Missy is over food again! I hide all of the chew toys when Missy is coming over for a visit. Missy looks for chew toys and tries my tiny dog door at every visit. She pushes the flap and cannot figure out to this day why this dog door just isn't right for her.
One New Year's Eve a few friends and Missy came to celebrate. This visit, I accidentally left a chew toy around. Missy found the chew toy and pranced happily into the room with the chew toy clutched in her mouth. Missy wanted to keep her delicious find so Missy's mom put her outside. Missy stood outside right in front of the dog door holding the chew toy in her mouth wondering why she couldn't fit back inside. Just then, Katie padded by the dog door on her way to the dining room hoping to find food. Suddenly, Katie's head snapped around just she spotted Missy outside on the other side of the door! She was instantly overjoyed! Just then, she stuck her head through the dog door and snatched the chew toy right out of Missy's mouth! She pulled her head and the toy back inside but I had to take the toy away from her until everyone left for the evening. Problem solved for humans and canines! Katie got the toy back of course after everyone went home.
Katie's vet says that she thinks she's a at least 5 different breeds. Her best guess is: Chihuahua, Yorkie, Doxen, Maltese. Her vet says that the X-ray is proof that she's part Doxen, there is no doubt. She's a mutty-mutt, mutt, mutt, mutt!
She's been a part of the family for awhile now. The kids at the park that we only see from summer-to-summer had asked me if Katie was a new dog because she has more hair. One young lady told me that she couldn't see the skin on her side and the look in her eye was different so she didn't recognize her. So many people used to ask, "What happened to Katie?" They'll tell me that they figured that I must have given up on Katie. I'm glad that I didn't because Little Sister is my sweetie sweet. Katie is so strong willed and wonderful. Quite the playful and funloving character. She loves to snuggle and be scratched behind the ears and, of course, run and play. Katie has learned from watching Andy to point to the treat jar and the greenie container with her snout and looks at me to see if I understand what he needs. What a sniffer she has on her. She can smell food very well.

Katie finds food that kids on their way to school have thrown in the bushes. We were walking in a local shopping center on a rainy day. She nearly scared me to death when she managed to swallow one-third of a See's dark chocolate almond custer someone had dropped and left on the ground. She swallowed the candy despite my efforts. The next morning she coughed up a completely whole and clean as a whistle almond.
Once, in downtown Los Gatos, Little Sister found a whole cinnamon bun completely untouched in a little paper basket sitting right there under a bench. She didn't get a chance to take a taste fortunately.
We are so lucky to have her in our lives. She and Riley are great buddies and play together every evening and, I'm sure, while I'm away at work.

My mommie took all of us for a walk today. I was so excited! New walking places are the bestest!
Mom took her friend some food because her friend has bronchitus. He husband answered the door and took the food inside. We had to wait in the car while she went to the grocery store and then to drop off the food. And then the best surprise walk.
We walked for about 2 1/2 miles. I wanted to run in the field but it wasn't safe for me. We walked on the sidewalks surrounding this great new place. When my mom looked behind us towards the end of the last round, she saw some kind of a critter. It was a dark critter and she thought that it was either an enormous skunk or a badger. It was so fun.
I clearly wanted to cross the street and walk on the other side. Mom picked me up so that I could get a good look at the sheep in the field. I was looking in the wrong direction and didn't see them. Andy cried because he wanted to be picked up so mom put him in the baby carrier. Riley just stood patiently by her side. I finally saw the sheep.
Everyone stood still and mom picked me up for the second time. The sheep always ran away from mom her friends when they came close by the fence. This time, the sheep were very curious. The all walked towards us and stopped. I finally saw the sheep and mom put me down. I my goodness! One of the sheep came very closeby and I was really scared. I looked towards the street but I'm not allowed to go into the street. The sheep just came up close and scared me (not Andy or Riley though) and I was panicky so mom told us to cross the street and we made our getaway.
It was a fun walk even though the sheep were really sca-a-a-r-r-r-y!

My mom has been putting the collar on me every day and I pretty much have stopped barking at the the kitties or anything else. So fortunate since mom was beside herself with worry over my being sprayed in the face all day with Citronella. She came home the first day and I really smelled of it. By the third day, no smell. What a relief.
Those kitties better stay out of my yard though! Mom thinks that they're really cute but I just don't want kitties in my yard. I have been very good about the barking even though those kitties like to sit on the top of MY fence and tease me. My mom hopes that one day I just stop barking so that I never have to wear the citronella collar again!

I've lived with my mommy for 14 years now and a new renter has moved into the townhouse next door. She doesn't like dogs so some of the complaints are a little petty. She's only complained once so we should be thankful for that as well. Anyway, mom hated to be disturbing anyone but the tone of the letter was so rude that she's still a little peeved. Mom has asked the other neighbors if the dogs were too noisy in the recently and they have told her that they were not.
I AM barking more than ever the past few weeks though. The neighboring townhouse is replacing all of their fences except our shared fence and have been for a couple of weeks now. I don't like cats (unlike Andy & Riley) and in addition to the fence coming down, a young kitty has decided to nap right on the other side of MY fence. My goodness I've been so frustrated.
Anyway, mom bought a Citronella collar for me since I've been barking alot outside. (When mom comes home, I'm running up and down along the back fence without making a peep. My little face smells like Citronella and it looks like I have a stye (sp?) in my eye. It seems to be working and she's thinking of buying one for Riley 'cause he might be barking alot inside of the house.
