Hi Friends,
Meeting my New FamilyApril 5th 2007 4:42 pm[ Leave A Comment ] Having passed the home check, On 24th Jan 2007 @ 9.30am I got a call from Dumfriesshire & Cumbria Greyhound Rescue asking if I would like to go and see "Ginger" at the local rescue centre. I told the lady I didn't drive so she offered to pick me up and take me to see the dog. When we arrived "Ginger" was being seen by the vet so we waited until they were done and then Ginger was brought out to meet us. When "Ginger walked out I immediately thought "She's Not Ginger, she's more of a fawn colour" The rescue lady, Jane said we could take her for a walk, she was very keen to sniff out her surroundings. On returning to the kennels Jane said I could take her into the excercise field and let her have a run and boy could she run, it was poetry in motion and a joy to watch. When it was time to take Ginger back to the kennel I called her but she didn't respond. Jane said she didn't respond when she called her either. As Ginger's background was unknown Jane thinks Ginger was just a name she was give to identify her and not one the dog recognised. Jane said "Ginger" could easily be renamed and asked if I was to rename her what would I call her, I thought for a while and "Honey" popped into my head as she was a honey colour and had such a sweet nature, she was a real honey to be with. Jane allowed me some time with "Ginger" on my own, all she wanted was to be stroked, she had such a soft coat for a greyhound, more like fur than hair. I say Jane approaching, I didn't want Ginger to go back into the kennel, the sad eyed look she gave had me completely hooked. I said to Jane "I want to take her home" she asked if I was certain as I had shown interest in seeing another dog. I said "Honey" was definately the one for us. Jane smiled, she knew Honey had got me hook, line and sinker with those lovely brown eyes. I reluctantly handed the lead back to Jane who said she would call the rehoming officer to let him know my decision, she also said if he gave the ok and her vet check was clear she would pick her up before the kennel closed for the day and bring her home to me. I was so excited waiting for Jane to call and sure enough the call came to say Honey was cleared and ready to go to her forever home. Jane arrived with Honey just an hour later. We had everything waiting for her, bedding, food, toys and loads of love. Jane gave me her number just incase I needed any advice. Honey settled in really quickly and before long she was lying stretched out with her feet in the air. That was only 10 weeks ago but it feels like we have had her forever and you know, something tells me Honey won't be the last grey we adopt!
