Arrival Story:
When we went to look at the puppies, (her father was the attack dog of the police force, and one of the sargents owned the mother) I wanted a male, but my husband was leaning more toward a female because we had heard that the female, especially after a litter was more protective of her family. Well she was the one the rest of the dogs picked on. She was so skittish. I know people will tell you to never get a dog like her but.....when she peeked out of the dog house, my husband saw her eyes and fell in love. Her eyes look like wolf eyes. They are not the dark color, but almost glow. Well we brought her home and all she would do is hide. We have a 4 stall barn, and to keep her from getting out in the street when we were at work we put a 35 foot chain on her(the light kind) so she would be able to get out of the barn into the grass, and also have shelter from the sun or rain. All she did was hide. After 5 days I told my husband we paid too much money for a dog that wont have anything to do with us. I told him if something doesn't give we are taking her back. I told my daughter to humor me and get down on her hands and knees and I would call her like she was a dog, and when I did, to come running on her hands and knees. Well I did, she did, Dixie sat up, looked at her like what is going on, ran over to her and started playing with her and slowly has become the best friend anyone could ask for. In fact when I got home from work Monday, my husband suprised me with another 6 week old german shepherd girl we have named Roxie. Dixie was 3 months old when we got her.
