Brandy was born to a stray dog that was at the local pound. She and her litter mates were taken to our vet's office as soon as they were weaned so they could be checked out to make sure they were healthy. Then the vet's office found them all good homes. Luckily, we were at the vet's office when the pups first got there and our daughter and her cousin fell in love with Brandy and applied to adopt her. Brandy came home with us when she was 8 weeks old.
Brandy is a lap dog. She always wants to be on your lap preferably under a blanket. She is very excitable and loves to play. However she doesn't like to share. She loves to be scratched especially right above the base of her tail. Although she cannot sit still for it, you see getting scratched there is so exciting that she has to do a little dance. She lifts up each back leg one at a time while turning circles. Under her chin and on the front of her neck is also a very itchy spot, scratch her here and she will stretch out her neck and pull her lips taut in a sort of smile. Another thing Brandy likes are words that start with the letter "B" and/or have strong "O" sounds. She loves it when you talk to her but these words make her perk up and cock her head.
Her pet peeve is WATER. Brandy does not like to be wet. She will not go outside when it is raining or snowing. It takes a lot of coaxing to get her to do so and usually she will require that you go out and get wet with her. I think it's her way of saying, "See Mom... it really is terrible out here, why do you make me potty when it's wet?". She also hates having her feet touched. If you want to touch them she'd better be asleep. As you can probably imagine this makes clipping her claws nearly impossible. So she clickety-clacks everywhere she walks. Another pet peeve of Brandy's is warm or stale drinking water. Brandy likes her drinking water fresh. She wants it run cold straight from the tap. On a hot day she appreciates a little ice. If the water in the bowl is stale or warm she will insist on drinking straight from the bathroom sink by putting her feet up on the counter and lapping from the running faucet.
Brandy has a love/hate relationship with all of her toys. She loves them all but is not satisfied until they are dead. Stuffed toys must first have all eyes, noses, ears, and limbs removed before the stuffing must be pulled out and spread around. Any rubber toys must be chewed into little bits. And if it squeeks it must be chewed until it can squeek no more. We go though toys fast so we always make sure to keep back-ups around.
Her favourite food is Peanut Butter! Mmm... Brandy loves all people food. She has even been known to eat hot peppers and raw onions... it's all good to her but whatever it is it's sure to be better with peanut butter spread on it.
Brandy isn't fond of the outdoors. She runs out does her business quickly and comes back in. Her favorite way to see the world is from the backseat of a car. She wants both back windows open so she can run back and forth sticking her head out of which ever side she likes. On an Extremely hot day, she wants to ride on someone's lap in the front passenger seat so she can watch the world go by through the windshield while the air conditioning ruffles her fur.
Brandy knows all the standard tricks. Sit, Shake, lie down, speak, fetch... although don't expect her to give back whatever she is fetching. She likes to play keep-away and will not give the toy back until you seem uninterested. The best way to get her to play fetch is to have two balls. Throw one and wait for her to return, then throw the other and she will drop the one she has to fetch the other one. Now you can throw the first ball again. This will continue until she decides she wants both balls and upon discovering she can not fit both in her mouth she will hold one and lie on the other so you can't get it. Her most unique trick is hopping. She does this by standing on her hind legs and holding her front feet out. She then will do a series of hops to get to her treat.
Brandy is a very loving and unique dog and we love her immensely and treat her as part of our family.
