Something Is Going OnMay 26th 2007 4:13 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
Something is going on in our house. Phil and Connie are worked up about something. They cleaned and cleaned the house, made it perfect, Phil cuts the grass and it isn't even that high! Every now and then the phone rings, Connie runs around a bit, then we go to get in the car just as this woman brings other people to our house. When Connie and I come back I can smell that they have been in every room! There are signs outside too, at the edge of our lawn. What is going on? I hear Phil and Connie talking, I think he is leaving to go to Pennsylvania, she is staying here until the house sells and she says we will go to Pennsylvania to be with Phil then. What does it mean? What is happening. I am agitated, but Connie still holds me, and sleeps with me in the big bed. Phil and Connie are laughing more than they were a week ago, things seem a bit better, but still that woman comes, bringing strangers to our house.

Here in Iowa the ground is soft and black. Perfect for digging--which is something I do everytime Connie or Phil hooks me up to the ten foot wire. I have a schedule that I keep to, this is how it goes. Connie opens the door to let me out, she stands on the sidewalk while I do my business---then I turn and run away. She yells and yells, calling my name over and over, but I ignore her and keep running toward the neighbors back yard. She will continue to yell, but to no avail, then she gets into her car and slowly drives around the block. I can see her do this while I meander from one back yard to another, smelling and checking out all the exciting things I find on my walk. After I see her drive around the block two or three times I meander to the front yard so she can see me, she stops, opens the door to the car and I hop in. She yells at me while we drive back home. Once we are home she hooks me up to the ten foot cord and I roll around in the grass, watch the birds, bark at the squirrels who stay just out of my reach. I watch people drive by, I greet people who walk by, I watch the kids play at recess time at the school down the block. Then I dig a hole. Oh, it feels so good to get my paws in that dirt, and dig, dig, dig. Every now and then I poke my snout into the earth for a good wiff, or to eat a bug or two. Next thing I know Connie is calling my name, she unhooks me and carries me into her kitchen where she gives me a bath to wash the black dirt off my paws.
My Tennis BallMay 5th 2007 10:06 am[ Leave A Comment ]
My favorite toy right now is a tennis ball we found while Connie was cleaning the basement. It is bright yellow and very fuzzy, I love to chase after it when Connie throws it. I love to chew it. In fact, I chewed it so much some of the yellow fuzz started coming off. I wasn't upset by this because it allowed me to pick the ball up by the strand of loose yellow fuzz---and shake shake shake the ball, pretending it was a "critter". Then a funny thing started happening----a hole started to appear in the ball, well, I chewed and chewed it, now the hole is HUGE, I can chew the ball, I can shake it, and I can still chase it. IT HAS BECOME THE MOST PERFECT TOY!!!!
Computer CabinetApril 30th 2007 10:23 am[ Leave A Comment ]
Did I ever mention that my favorite place to sit and look out the window is on top of Connie's computer cabinet? She lifts me up there, and I look out the window or down at her while she works. It's a great place to sit. The tree outside is blooming bright pink right now, just beautiful. Those squirrels (grrr) use this tree to get to the roof of the house. There is a robin who has been building it's nest in the tree, she is working so hard. It's been hot in Iowa these past few days, it is in the high 80's today, Connie has the air on. It's funny, we had snow just a few weeks ago.
I did it again!April 30th 2007 10:17 am[ Leave A Comment ] Phil is gone again and Connie and I have been living the "bohemian" life. Connie stays busy writing on the computer and I spend most of my time looking out the window--guarding our yard, or running through the house. Lucky for me though, on Sunday Connie walked me over to the fenced in park and threw the ball for me. Like I said in earlier entries, she seems to get some sort of strange enjoyment throwing this ball again and again after I bring it back to her. I was worn out, my tongue was dragging on the ground when I heard a dog bark across the street. I looked at Connie, she was calling for me to come back, but I couldn't stop myself, I ran across the busy street, up to the sound of the dog, behind the house where he was tied. I saw Connie walking toward the house, so I ran to the next house where there were some kids playing in the yard, Connie kept coming, so I ran behind the kids house into the yard of a nice woman who was sitting on her deck reading and sunning herself. Connie came after me, I kept going, into another woman's yard, this woman grabbed my collar when I laid on my back for a belly rub, and she held on until Connie came, huffing and puffing, to carry me home. She didn't talk to me the rest of the day, and when I had to go out, she carried me to the ten foot line and hooked me up. I dug two deep holes in Phil's yard while I was hooked up. Got my fur all muddy, then Connie came out and got me, I spent the rest of the day inside. Hmmm, maybe if I didn't run away Connie wouldn't get mad at me---------noooo, her moodiness can't be caused by something as simple as that!!!
I'm bad, I know it.April 26th 2007 6:41 pm[ Leave A Comment ]
Phil has been gone for two weeks and he finally came home yesterday. So, all of a sudden he wants to tell me what to do---he's the one who left---now I'm suppose to listen to him. Anyway, we were outside, Connie was pulling weeds and Phil was cutting the grass. I was on my ten foot wire until Connie took me off of it and I was allowed to be FREE!!! I hung around the yard for a while then I just couldn't help myself, I took off.
Spring has finally sprung!April 16th 2007 6:15 am[ Leave A Comment ]
Finally, I can go ("go") outside without having to swim in two feet of new snow! Finally, Connie can hook me up to my ten foot wire and I can sit in the yard and watch the birds and people and squirrels and cars. I can dig holes in Phils yard, I can eat bugs. Finally, Connie can walk me over to the fenced in field and I can RUN RUN RUN after that ball she keeps throwing! I bring it back to her AND SHE THROWS IT AGAIN and I have to go get it, bring it to her, and SHE THROWS IT AGAIN! What's with that??? I do my best around here but sometimes it hard. . . . . . .

My First FriendApril 5th 2007 6:05 am[ Leave A Comment ]
I got a FRIEND!!! Yay!!!
Cold and WindyApril 4th 2007 9:01 am[ Leave A Comment ] Ahhh, it's cold and windy in Iowa today. I've been up since six this morning, doing my jobs around the house, eating crumbs, taking Phil outside for his walk when we got up. Connie is working on her computer and I am lazing by the window, watching the people go by and the wind blow. The sounds in the house have me worked up---what is it---who is there??? Connie took me outside and hooked me up to my cord in the yard---I guess I screwed up running away yesterday, she isn't taking any chances. I looked around the grass, I barked at a squirrel, but it's cold and I'm bored, so I look at the big window hoping to see Connie walk past. "There she is!!!" She is coming to get me, and take me inside. Ahhhh, warmth. I am so cold I think I'll run through the house at top speed just to warm up. Through the living room, I slide around the corner in the den and into the TV room, down the hallway, through the dining room, out into the kitchen---coming to a screetching halt on the slip and slide rug by the door. Now I'm tired, I think I'll go and sleep in the sun. You all take care---see ya tomorrow!!
