Arrival Story:
Princess was only 8 months old at the Arizona Humane Society. I had already picked out her new brother Beau and was looking for a companion for him. I was looking at another dog when I noticed a lady visiting with Princess in the yard. A group of small puppies had just been brought out to play when the lady abandonned Princess in favor of the puppies. I had to go and comfort her. On my way over I noticed that one of the puppies, a mere 1/10 of her size ran up to play with her and she cowared away. My heart broke. When I introduced myself to her, she was so scared and shy. She had been severly abused and I knew that she did not have a great chance of being adopted. Well I knew at that moment I had a chance to make a difference in her life.
I brought her over to meet Beau and she was scared but they got along. My mom was with me and Princess slowly warmed up to her. I hated to leave her, but she still had to be spayed. Even then she wouldn't leave, wouldn't get in the car, was afraid of the stairs into the house, and I just took my time. Well six years later, she runs the house, myself, Beau, the cat, my new rescued cocker spaniel and any foster dogs in the house. She still has "fear agression" when new people come into the house, but with some positive reinforcement from me, she does OK. She is truly a Princess!
