Arrival Story:
I had been begging my husband for 5 years for a dog. I was looking on petfinder.com and I saw that one of the pit-friendly rescues (mutley crew) was going to be at a local petsmart... when I got there, the owner of the shelter had told me she didn't bring all of her pit bulls, but there was one pit there named "Nova". She was sitting all quiet in her crate and just looked adorable! They asked if I wanted to walk her and I did. We hit it off immediately! After the short walk she sat down next to me and put her sweet head in my lap. a 45 lb lap dog... perfect I thought! I called my husband, he still wasn't sure. I made a deal with the lady at the shelter to "foster" Nova for the weekend and talked my husband into it and of course she never went back. We changed her name from Nova to Roxy and she has been our little baby ever since!

Bio:
Roxy was saved from the pound (a.k.a. doggie death row )by the wonderul owner of a resuce. Unfortunately pit & pit mixes are so misunderstood & misrepresented in our world. We are so grateful she was saved. She has brought so much joy & love into our lives. Roxy is a shining example of what pit bulls are all about....loving, eager to please, affectionate & gentle. Please don't believe everything you see or hear, get to know a dog for who they are, not just what you have heard about the "breed."

BSL - Breed Specific Legislation... Oh no!

Hi human friends,

I just found out that in Denver they have banned dogs like me, and even any dog that resembles me and that's a lot...there are over 27 breeds that get mistaken for pit bulls!

Please paste the following link into your address bar:
http://www.understand-a-bull.com/index.htm
and make sure to visit the "BSL Alerts" page, in the yellow box you will find current cities & states that are looking into BSL (Breed Specific Legislation). Here is the list of "breeds" some of them are wanting to extinguish: PIT BULLS AND ANY DOG THAT RESEMBLES A PIT, AMERICAN BULLDOGS, ROTTWEILERS, CHOWS, SHAR-PEIS, GERMAN SHEPHERD & DOBERMANS.

There are "sample" letters that you can email to city council members, etc. Here's what advocates against BSL say: "we need EVERY responsible dog owner to write letters to the City Council members and the Mayor opposing any Breed Specific ordinances. Even if this isn't your state, you should write a letter of opposition. In a blink of an eye, it could be your city and you will be asking everyone to help you battle the BSL. If your chosen breed isn't mentioned, you should also write a letter of opposition. It won't be long before your breed is listed! Once the precedent is set for BSL in a community, all it will take is one dog of your breed to bite a child and soon you will find your dog on the list."

My mom's going to bookmark it and visit every week! Please I urge you to do the same. Use one of the sample letters and make it your own. Once mom has her letter down, it will only take a few minutes of her time each week. So worth it! If you are an animal lover, imagine someone wanting to take away your fur-baby just because they are a certain breed. Please help my mom be the voice for us.

Thanks for helping save dogs like me, we are such a misunderstood breed…We are gentle, loving, loyal dogs! Feel free to pass this on to all your animal loving friends…together we CAN make a difference!

Lickingly yours,
Roxy

Hi there,

Roxy here with some great pit bull friendly sites. It's really sad that so many of my bully-breed friends are so misunderstood. If you have some time, please check out some of these fabulous links and become and advocate for me & my friends. We need as much support as we can get!

Lickingly yours,
Roxy

Football Sunday

Mom & Dad sometimes have people over on football Sunday. I LOVE football Sunday because it means there are plenty of knees to lick. I am at the perfect height to lick knees, hands or feet. I don't know what I will lick when the weather starts getting colder and I won't get to see knees anymore.

Dad has been taking me on walks around the lake almost everyday. I get to play ball at least once or twice a day too. I love chasing tennis balls. It is my goal to not let the ball bounce more than once before I catch it. Sometimes I fly across the backyard like Superdog!

Well, that's it for today, time to go walk around the house, look for knees to lick and if I don't find any, I will take a nice nap on the soft couch.

Life is great!
