Arrival Story:
After Beasley turned a year old, I started thinking about getting another dog. I contacted Dachshund rescue and applied for any mini-wirehair they had available. However, they had none available and didn't foresee getting any. I called Beasley's breeder to tell her I was in the market again. She told me that she had a litter due in June that would be full siblings to Beasley. That was it, I was sold! Gilligan became part of our family in July of '03 when he was 9 weeks old.

My debut!

My first USDAA Standard Q!

I was entered all weekend (July 22-23) in a USDAA trial and let me tell you it was HOT! Mom said it got to 108 degrees on Saturday, but it was much cooler on Sunday. We spent a lot of time in the baby pool, getting hosed off and eating ice cubes. Luckily, we were under a pavillion that had misters, so the sun wasn't an issue. I had a Standard run both days, but refused the teeter on Saturday. I don't think my Mom was hopeful about Sunday. Boy, did I surprise her! Not only did I not refuse the teeter, my weaves were quick and accurate and I was 3 seconds under time. When Mom's friend told her I Q'd, she cried. I guess it's because she works so hard to help me overcome my issues with the teeter and it finally paid off. I'm still not crazy about it, but I'm getting more brave. Hopefully, I'll continue to conquer my fears this weekend. I should be able to, after all, I am a Dachshund!

Who rocks at distance work? I do!

We were doing distance work today at school and I kicked booty! Not only was it distance work, but it was also obstacle discrimination - I had to move away from the tunnel to take a line of jumps. That was a tough mental dilemma because I LOVE the tunnel! It's so hard for me to resist in all of it's dark, curvy lovliness. But, I did it and Beasley did, too! Our mom was very proud of our progress. We spend so much time on agility, I think it makes mom feel good when we demonstrate we know what we're doing!

Well, my MD agility trial debut was a total success! Last summer my sister, Beasley, got to compete at a trial and this year I did! It was totally fun and a big highlight for me was having my Grandparents come to watch. It was a USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association) trial and I competed both days, Saturday, May 20th & Sunday, May 21st. I got 3 second places and 3 Q's - Gamblers, Snooker & Jumpers. Plus, my Pairs team took first! I also got 2 fourth places. I love showing others that although I'm small, I'm quite mighty!
