I have been having a very bad week. Last Thursday I ran to mommy and wanted to be picked up. Of course, she picked me up and then she noticed that my eye was shut and was watering. It was late in the day, so she called the Emergency Vet. She thought I may have been scratched by one of the kitties, the ER Vet said to use natural tear drops and take me to my regular vet the next day. Well, we made an appointment early in the morning, but then our regular vet had to cancel because her daughter was having a baby (the nerve of her, didn't she know we had an emergency???). They refered us to another vet (which worked out well because this vet specializes in PUGS!). When we FINALLY got to the appointment, the vet told us that our cornea was not scratched, but it had suffered some sort of trauma. She put me on antibiotics and a med to dilate my pupil. Mommy took me back to the vet on Monday and it appeared a little better, but not much, so I stayed on my meds. Mommy took me back again today and my eye doesn't look any better. We are very sad! The vet debrided my eye and gave me a new antibiotic, to hopefully aid in healing, but said that surgery needed to be scheduled for Friday to sew my third eyelid shut so that my eye is better protected. I have to wear a stupid lampshade, but Mommy is upset because no matter what she does I can take it right off. Boy am I glad that my neck is as big as my head!!! She says she is going to find me some goggles--UGH!
So, I am off to surgery on Friday. I am also going to be spayed while I am out like a light. I was suppose to wait until August because of the heat I went through in April, but my new vet thinks that I will be ok. Mommy agrees with the vet that the less times I have to be put under, the better! Needless to say, Mommy is very concerned. I am her lovey, dovey baby and the thought of my discomfort (or WORSE!!!) scares the living daylights out of her.
Please keep me in your prayers. Mom knows this is not a HUGE thing, but to us it quite traumatic!

Tag, I'm it!
Here are the rules of the game!
Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!
7 facts about me:
-- My mom has always had German Shepherd's and NEVER thought she would EVER have a small dog (Dad use to call small dogs "cats" or "rats"--can you imagine????). She met a lady at work that has about a million pugs and went to a party at her house. She says she instantly fell in love with the breed and wanted one for years! This same friend was involved in pug rescue and my birth mommy died a few days after giving birth to me. Mom's friend took care of us pups and I came to live with mom when I was 12 weeks old. BTW, the former small dog hater (Dad) loves me to bits and proudly wears a t-shirt that says "I kiss my pug on the lips!"
-- Mom always knew her pug would be named Fig Newton because she thinks we look like the cookie (Black faces, surrounded by tan). She thought she would choose a boy, but while helping her friend care for us pups, she fell completely and totally in love with me and ended up with a girl (even though she thinks the name "bitches" for female dogs really fits)
--I came to live with my mom at the very worst time in her life. She had a hysterectomy about six months before I came home and for some crazy reason she was depressed about not being able to have more children (even though she had her tubes tied 14 years before her hysterectomy! BOL!). Then during this awful time my oldest human bro went into the Army (he is currently an MP in Iraq). She was horribly depressed, had dropped out of nursing school, and was either going to take a leave from work or quit. I, single handedly, made such a difference in her life that she is back in school and working part-time.
--I have a big doggy bro named Max and he sometimes gets left out in this posting thing on Dogster. She says it not because she loves him any less (even though I would like to think so), it is because I am a lap dog and am always on her lap while she is on the computer. He will be 15 years old in a couple months, which is very old for a GSD. He is in great health and when we moved to a new town and changed vets last year Mom actually had to bring in his AKC papers to prove to the vet how old he is!!!!
-- I am incredibly spoiled, to the point that both of my big human brothers have accused my mom of loving me more than them (BOL! Who wouldn't???). I am not the best trained pup in the world, I do know all my commands, but they are not really practical because I won't perform unless there is a treat involved. I also have a myspace: myspace.com/fignewtonpalermo
-- I have a stroller. This is because my likes to go on long walks and I can't walk for miles like she likes to do. Pugs can't pant effectively due to our short noses and overheating is a real concern. I get lots of comments on this (some negative) and mom has stolen someone's idea that was posted on Dogster: whenever someone makes a snide comments about her "dog" in a stroller, she says (in a loud, near hysterical voice) "Dog? Are you calling my baby a dog? I have never been so offended in my life. How could you?". This is somewhat embarassing for my 15 year old human brother and my dad, but they are kind of use to mom's eccentricity.
-- I have an indoor litter box because winter was just starting when I came home and I would not go outside when it was cold, rainy, wet, snowing, windy, etc. For a while we had to pack up my box whenever we went visiting for more than an hour or so because I wouldn't do my stuff outside! I do now though, since the weather has gotten warmer (thank doG)!
That was fun! Now who should I tag? I think most of the pups I can think of to tag have already been tagged lots! let's see...
I'm tagging my brother, Max, so he has a diary, too.
It looks like my friend Pugsley (who just had a first birthday!) hasn't been tagged yet. Happy birthday Pugsley!
Also, Helix (my friend who ALWAYS give great information) hasn't been tagged yet.
Lily, my new friend from the Pug forum, hasn't posted a diary entry yet, so maybe she hasn't been tagged--so I tagged her!
Super cutie Spencer hadn't been tagged--now he has!
Pickwick, a fellow NH pug, has now been tagged, by me!
And, last but not least, Salvador, who has a GREAT Red Sox jersey, has now been tagged!
