Arrival Story:
We were looking for a standard poodle pup and found an ad from a local breeder of standard poodles with pups for sale, who just happened to be parti-colored. I was very impressed with this breeder and the time that was spent carefully socializing these puppies. We chose Jiggs because of his great temperament and good size.

Bio:
Jiggs is a purebred "parti-colored" standard poodle from a black parti mother and a blue parti father. He is friendly and affectionate, very playful, confident, and VERY smart. He absolutely loves meeting other dogs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jiggs was born December 4th, 2006 and is about 25 inches and 57 lbs. He has the stockier, more solid physique and also coloring that is consistant with the old style/original/hunting poodle. (As opposed to the modern standard poodle, bred today in solid colors for show, with a leaner, more refined look, narrower head and muzzle. ) He is UKC registered as Parti's Rig-a-Jig-Jiggs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It appears Jiggs is turning into a BLUE parti (charcoal or dark grey) as opposed to black and white. Blues often take up to 4 years to "clear" to their true color. They start out black and get lighter as they age.

Forums Motto:
I'm a parti-boy!

About Jiggs' Coloring:
Yes, he is pure-bred, not a mix! Jiggs is what is known as a pie-bald or "parti-colored" standard poodle, (parti is short for 'partial', or "partial-colored") which is the original or "old style" of poodle coloring. Before they started breeding for solid colors over a century ago, most poodles came in this color type. Some breeders today are working on bringing back this color variation, which can come in all colors with white. I was some told Jiggs comes from German hunting lines on his father's side.

A Natural Born Swimmer!

Today my mom took me swimming for the first time - at a large, deep, slow-moving river. I surprised her by taking very naturally to the water, swimming around like I've been doing it all my life. I retrieved the frisbee she threw out into the water over and over and over again. It is very serious stuff! I took to it like it was my JOB to get that frisbee from the deep river each time it was thrown out. I did it for over 2 hours and never tired! She could hardly get me OUT of the water, I just loved it!!

(Mom says it is also good exercise for me since my vet told her yesterday I could lose a few pounds.)
