A day in the life of Grey...

Grey graduated!

Grey graduated from his basic obedience training last week. He knows how to sit, lie down (well...we're still working on this one), sit and stay, and lie down and stay, and come. We're still working on heel and I'm trying to get him to sit and wait at the door instead of jumping at the door whenever we're going to go out. My trainer was great...we're going to continue with advanced training every other week. Grey is such a good dog. And he's so sweet. He just wants to be around people all the time.

Grey's first day of training

Today was Grey's first day of doggie training. I opted to do personal one-on-one training at home. He did really well...the trainer does walks for her customers during the week also, so I had asked her if she could walk Grey 2x a week while I'm at work. I would have loved to have her walk him 3x a week because I work 3 days a week, but it was way too expensive. Training + 3 walks each week a month would have cost me more than my monthly car payment. Eek. What I like about t he trainer doing his walks is that she reinforces his training. After just two walks with him, he's not pulling on his leash as much and he's walking beside me. I'm excited to see how he's going to progress. It's funny how you can bribe dogs so well with treats.

So I stopped by the mall today to return something...and I wandered into the Coach store. I walked out with a new collar and leash for Grey. What a spoiled dog. My cat Cricket has a Coach collar so it wouldn't be fair if Grey didn't also have one. He looks so cute with it on. I'll snap some pics of him when I get my camera back from my bf.

First day with the dog trainer...

Well, it wasn't actually our first day. It was consultation day. She seems very nice, and I like her. She came over and she played with Grey for a little bit...kind of taught him not to jump up on her (he loves jumping). In the few minutes, it was effective...he stopped jumping and instead just sat. She seems really good. The only thing's so expensive!! She also does dog walking, which I also the behavior/obedience training is $85 and the dog walks are $20 (which I would need 3x a week). $145 a week. Grey is getting to be expensive...but at least the $85 will only be about 6-8 weeks. The $60 for the dog walks I can handle. The nice thing about the dog walks is that she spends about an hour with the dog, and will walk him, play with him, and she'll reinforce the training that we did that week. I'm excited. Grey is already such a good dog, but I would like him to be able to do some obedience. And of course the housebreaking, which is the most important. I want him to be able to go around the house without worrying about him peeing everywhere. We'll see how it goes. I'm excited about the training.
