Leave a bone for Monkey
Nicknames: King Kong, Kong, Monk, Monkey Man, Monk Man, Lil' Boy, Boo Boo, Monkletons, Mo, MoMo, MonkMonk, Tard
Doggie Dynamics:
Likes: THE DOG PARK!!!, Mom, chasing balls, chasing kitties, wrestling with his doggy friends, and chewing
Pet-Peeves: forgetting where he is or what he was just doing, being left at home while Mom goes to work, going up and down stairs because he's not very good at it
Favorite Toy: Mr. Duck, Mr. Gorilla (although now he also has Mr. Gorilla's arm as a separate toy, which he LOVES), (I lost Mr. Peeg... where ARE you Mr.Peeg??!?!?!), the blinking yellow ball, and the new Greendog that he got when he got better from Giardia
Favorite Food: Hill's Prescription Diet r/d dry doog food, cat food (oops!)
Favorite Walk: wherever Mom goes... I follow her EVERYWHERE! Sometimes we take a walk around the block so I can sniff fun things like in the yard by Bo's Bunkhouse... but now guess what... I love the DOG PARK!!! It is soooo glorious!!!
Best Tricks: SIT (although it takes me about 10 seconds to actually do it), fetching Mr. Duck, running with floppy paws, learning to go down the stairs (not going well, especially the stairs to get on and off Mom's bed)
Arrival Story: Monkey (named King Kong at the time) was brought to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine after being hit by a car 20 hours prior. Without a whole lot of money, there was not much we could do as far as bringing him back to normal, and there was still no guarantee, so the owner was going to have to euthanize him. My dad was a neurologist there (now at Auburn University -- WAR EAGLE), so he decided to adopt the puppy so that we could hopefully save him... and he recovered a million times more quickly than we ever imagined!
Bio: Monkey is a really happy puppy but has sort of reached a plateau in his recovery. He is a great dog and always has a great time, but he still has some neurological signs... I wouldn't call them problems necessarily, but he just has some issues such as being REALLY dumb and slow (but glorious), afraid to go down stairs (but working on it!), and some other neurological things that the untrained eye really wouldn't notice.
Pituitary Issues: Monkey has officially been diagnosed with acquired traumatic pituitary dwarfism! He does produce a small amount of growth hormone (so he grows but at an abnormal rate), so he should not have any real problems associated with it. He still has his puppy coat at 18 months and really looks like a puppy (and behaves like one, but that's related to his other brain issues...). I have the perfect Lab... calm, small, and a puppy forever!!!
My new baby sister's name is Nellie, and she is soooooooo annoying. She is always chasing me while I'm circling to the left, biting my ears, and trying to wrestle with me. I yell at her a lot, but I actually really like her, especially when she curls up with me and sleeps in my kennel. I think she has a problem with waiting to go outside before she pees and poops, though. Maybe she'll learn. I learned, so surely she can learn eventually. She's only about 3 months old.
