I called and drove out to for a visit. Annie was on a log chain in a barn, very little hair, severely underwieght, and at just over a year old she had just finished weaning her first litter of pups. Her "owner" mentioned off-handedly that she only lost her hair as she was put in a cattle trailer for a week while they were on vacation and that her husband was going to shoot her if they didn't find her a good home.
