Arrival Story:
Jack was found outside our door, February 2000, completely covered in ice and snow. No one ever claimed this nice little boy, so he became ours. When we knew he was going to be our dog, we took him to the groomer who asked if we wanted a "scottie cut". We had no idea he was a Scottish Terrier until that moment. Even though he only weighed barely 25 pounds, he still thought he was a labrador like the rest of our dogs. We miss him so much.

Jack would let them floss his teeth when he had his dental check-ups at the vet. He always barked at dogs bigger than him, but he was just all bark. He was very calm and sweet. On his last day on Earth, he had been out running with the other dogs in the yard like usual. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. A hour after he came in from outside, he had what appeared to be a heart attack and died in my sons arms. Such a shock. It was a very sad day. So unexpected, and just six months after we had lost our beloved Max.

" Baggage"

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed.
I would like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm.. Yes there it is, right on the top-
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave-
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never re-pack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

This beautiful poem was written in memory of Jessie, a Scottish Terrier. She was born into the tragic conditions of a puppy mill; abused, but rescued to live out her life in a loving, 'forever' home before she passed on to the Rainbow Bridge.

For our friend MICA

Help a good friend of ours. It's so easy!
Would you like to help? If so, it couldn't be simpler!
Our good friend Angel Mica died of a horrible blood disease called IMHA. Even though MICA is now an Angel, her legacy lives on.

IMHA stands for Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia.

This disease may not be well known, but it is the LEADING BLOOD DISEASE in both dogs and cats . We are trying to get the word out about this to help others. So, PLEASE, help if you can. Something so simple as clicking your mouse, may help another pet not to have to suffer like MICA did.

Here’s how easy it is to help:
You can become a Dogster Pal and corral MICA and her pack.

MICA http://www.dogster.com/dogs/504880

MIRRA http://www.dogster.com/dogs/581776

TPGOO http://www.dogster.com/dogs/718265

MICA MUST be corralled for a donation to stick.

If someone chooses Mirra, or The Purple Girls Of Oregon (TPGOO) without Mica, it won’t count. (SO no matter what, make sure you corral MICA!) With each new corral Mica’s IMHA Research Fund gets a small donation. A bonus comes if Mirra and TPGOO are also selected.

There are Woofdays coming up which makes your click even better! Mica’s on 10 May, would be her 11th. Mirra’s very 1st comes 30 May, 2008. This is where it gets even more special!

The tally of the number of corrals MICA has on 31 May 2008, after Mirra's Woofday, means A DOLLAR for EVERY CORRAL! so if the total, for example is 1000 corrals, then MICA'S IMHA FUND gets 1000 dollars. These donations will be from the same kindhearted GSD who raced her last fall for the cause. It was a close race and Mica lost but was sooooooo close to winning. This Special GSD & his owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, believes so much in Mica's cause, IMHA research & K9 Blood donations too. It is close to their hearts as he lost his K9 Partner to this disease.

Thank You!
Please pawmail Mica if you are interested in making a donation to this cause. Mica's Mom is a great woman, and is tirelessly fighting for a cure!

I picture Max carrying the big mailbag of Rawhide Valentines with Jack at his side passing them out. They were quite a pair. Miss you Jack!
