A Poem For Those Having To Make The Decision To Say Goodbye To Your Beloved Pet

Thought of you today

Dear Max, I thought of you today when I saw this quote.
"Blessed is the person Who has earned the love of an old dog"
It is still so hard to think of you sometimes without tears. You were such a loving, faithful companion. You came into our lives when Steve and Kelly were so young, and you helped raise them into adults. You even helped raise Gomez. He came into our lives as an 8 week old puppy, and you were his mentor. I look at Gomez, and he does the silly things you sometimes did. He makes us smile like you always did. I used to call you my old man. I wish could still call you that now. Sure do miss you.
Love, Mom

Someone at work told Mom that their neighbor got a new chocolate lab puppy. Mom got a little teary because she thought of me. She remembered me as a baby when I had a chubby tummy, and I used to bite her toes. Then she thought of other times we spent together as I grew up, and how handsome I got when I started to gray around my muzzle. Boy she sure does miss me!

On June 3rd it will be two years since you left us to go to the Rainbow Bridge. I will never forget your face when you were leaving. You looked so relieved, no more suffering. I can't help feeling a little selfish that day. I didn't want you to go. But now looking back, I know it was the right thing to do. It doesn't mean I miss you any less. Even though we called you our old man, you were still my baby. I will never forget your. Love, Mom
