Birthday: October 17th 2006 Likes: Sleeping on her favorite dog pillow, playing with Gomez Pet-Peeves: When it isn't time to eat Favorite Toy: Kong tug, busy ball, nylabones Favorite Food: Nutro Lamb and Rice flavor Favorite Walk: Right on our street, or strolling through the Mall. She knows her puppy coat takes her to interesting places and is always on her best behavior. Best Tricks: Kisses on command. Rings a bell when she needs to potty but it is a behavior, not really a trick Also will "spin" on command. She can always have a backup career as a show dog! Arrival Story: We are puppy raiser's for Guiding Eyes For The Blind. Island is the third puppy we are raising. She is a puppy in pre-training. We will have Island for about 16 months, and then she will go back to Guiding Eyes to train as a guide dog. We love all the puppies as if they were our own. A piece of our hearts leaves with each one. We feel it is a gift from above to be able to train these wonderful dogs, and then give someone the gift of independence. ***UPDATE***Island is now a working guide in Tuscon AZ guiding Pete each day. God Bless Island and Pete!!! Bio: Island was born at Guiding Eyes For The Blind's breeding center. Her Mom is Thelma. Her Dad Faust is from another Guide Dog School. She is a very sweet puppy. She is from a litter of nine. Her siblings are Idette, Ike, Holly, Izzie, Ivory, Lucky, India, and Imari. Two of her siblings were sent to another Guide Dog School and two were released by GEB when they went through their puppy testing. The released puppies are adopted after careful evaluation by GEB from a long waiting list of people wanting these special dogs. Update: After spending nineteen wonderful months in our home, Island went back to the guide school to train to become a gift to someone who needs her. She has graduated after five months and is matched to a wonderful young man. We love her so much and wish her good luck. We were so lucky to have her in our lives. Mom has gotten two updates on me so far. I am doing great out in Arizona! I am getting spoiled and loved just the way I should be!'
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Love,
Island
I have officially graduated! I am matched to a wonderful young man named Pete, and he loves me and trusts my work! My whole puppy raising family came to watch me on my special day. They drove seven hours to see me and I was so happy to see them! Tears of joy were flowing! I am so lucky, because Pete just loves me to pieces and is just so nice. Mom is confident I will have a happy life with him and his family in Arizona. He told Mom he already bought me a bed online with my name embroidered on it! I am one lucky puppy, getting to do something for someone who needs me. What can be better than that? Pete says he will update Mom and send pictures. I had the greatest guide dog trainer at GEB. Susan always motivated me to do my best, and it carried over when I started working with Pete. A special shout out to my pals who have followed me on Dogster. I won't disappoint you! Don't ever forget me! Love, Guide Dog Island
