Adopt, 2009 Contest Entry

I’ve grown up with dogs and I’ve always loved them. When my dog Lucy died I was stunned. I was extremely sad but mostly stunned and speechless. It was hard to keep back the tears when I thought of her. It really hit me hard and I’d go outside everyday and just sit on the bench and cry. I missed her so much, I felt so…empty.

Eventually the time came when everyone agreed it was time to get another dog. The house had felt so empty and lonely.

I went to my grandparents for the weekend on Easter weekend and we were going back into town on Easter day. I had a hunch that there would be a dog waiting for me when I got home and I was really excited.

When we arrived home I was disappointed to see everyone acting as usual as ever and no dog greeting me at the door. I sighed knowing the time would come soon and decided to get over it for the day, at least. Everyone told me to go to my room, but they said it quite calmly. I expected some kind of Easter surprise but definitely not what I opened my door to find…

I opened my door and looking up at me stood a beautiful GSD/Lab mix. Everyone was behind me waiting to see my reaction, again I was stunned. She was so beautiful and I was so happy. I asked her name and I got the response “Angel”.

Angel has been my best friend since the moment I opened my door. She came home the night before so she was still quite nervous and scared. She laid under a table inside and I sat beside her for hours. We went for a walk that day and of course, I walked her.

Angel has been such an amazing addition to my life. I don’t know what I would do without her. Her bright expressions, attitude and personality always put a smile on my face. I can be in the worst mood and could be having the worst day and she’ll make me totally forget it for a while. When I see her bright, beautiful eyes staring up at me I can’t help but go and cuddle her and give her attention. She’s so friendly and loves giving kisses.

I’m so thankful of the shelter to have given me this amazing girl. Angel has saved me in so many ways and it’s something I’ll always remember. A good friend is so hard to find these days, but I’ve found best friends in both of my dogs.

I love volunteering at the shelter and spending time with the dogs and cats there. They’re dying for attention and someone to love them. Hours fly by while I’m there. It’s my escape. It’s sad to see the dogs and cats there waiting and waiting. Especially when I come back the next time and they’re still waiting. It’s also hard to see specific breeds put off the corner of the kennel area, not available for adoption. It’s hard to see the second chances that are deserved not being given.

I love Angel with all my heart and I couldn’t imagine life without her, life without my best friend.

2 Years on Dogster!

March 9th marks our two years on Dogster. Mom added me to Dogster two years ago, today! It has been a great two years and we have met loads of fabulous people. We look forward to many more years :)

Harper Road

Mom took Ozzie and I to Harper Road today. We had an absolute blast! Ozzie and I both love the snow. He has 9 new pictures on his page and I have a couple, too. We'd appreciate if you'd check them out!

I love just wandering around and climbing around everywhere in the snow, playing with Ozzie and running around with mom. Sure it was cold but it was fun!

My Birthday!!

I had a great Birthday. Mom wanted to make me a cake but didn't realive November 1st was actually Saturday. She knew my Birthday was November 1st and that it was coming soon but she didn't realize it was Saturday of this weekend, BOL. So everything was sort of last minute. But we still had a great time. Mom took Ozzie and I to All Creatures Great and Small. I picked out quite a bit of yummy treats for Ozzie and I and then we went to Harper Road. We had a blast there, climbing, running, playing, swimming. Mom got some pictures of me but not very many since she sort of has to sneak them, BOL. I don't like to stay still for the camera unless there's food involved, and if I'm too excited at that time I still don't stay still for food very good, BOL. But we had a great day and now I'm seven years young!!

We had a pretty slow halloween. We had a couple trick-or-treaters and then our street quickly became deserted. Mom took me down the street in my hotdog costume and everyone admired my costume and stared over saying "Awwww". Then Ozzie and I got to sit out front with mom, on the porch, with our costumes on. We were very well behaved when trick-or-treaters came by. We didn't bark once.

It's my Birthday, today!

I turn 7 today! Mom has some special plans and I can't wait!

Updates!

Wow, I haven't written in here for a while.

Well, yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving. We went to mom's grandparents, so we also got to see Snoopy. Which also means we got to do alot of swimming, Ozzie and I had a great time. We were both also very well behaved. I wandered off every now and then but came when I was called, and usually just stayed around everyone.

Friday we went to Harper Road, Ozzie and I had a BLAST! We took off after a squirrel for a couple seconds (we came back when mom called us) but since we did enter the forest area we came out covered in burs, Ozzie had more than I did, and it was easier to get them off me since my fur is shorter, though. So a bath wasn't neccessary. We also might be going to Harper Road again tomorrow, hopefully we do!

I Could've Been Killed!

I keep getting out by climbing the fence, and last night I was out until x - 4:00am! I was so lucky I wasn't hit by a car (especially since I'm black and it was dark out) or taken. Mom couldn't imagine losing me. The back door (leading to the doggie door) is usually closed but our other back door is opened constantly by someone in our family coming home later, or someone's friend coming over, so I get out that door into the backyard and climb the fence. Mom's going to have to take a closer look today and do something. She's tried so many things but it doesn't seem to be working. She thought she fixed the way I was getting out but then a few days later, I got out again. Atleast I found my way back and came home. Mom is really worried about it happening again. But she's going to try to make sure I can't get into the backyard tonight and that the area where I've been climbing is covered.

We won't be on Wednesday-Friday, Beach!

We won't be on from Wednesday until sometime Friday or Saturday.
We may be on Wednesday morning, we're leaving for the beach at 12:00-1:00 or so, but mom wakes up late and she has to give Ozzie and I a bath if she doesn't get us both done tomorrow. Anyways, so, we're going to the beach Wednesday afternoon or so and we'll be back sometime (probably late) Friday. We'll get loads of pictures, because of course mom is taking us with her! We're super excited.

Mom also got Ozzie and I a new harness, each!

Also, if you read my recent diary entry about my ear and visiting the vet- my ear is much, MUCH, better. It doesn't seem to be bothering me anymore, I don't shake my head or whine when I get petted around that area, the smell is gone, too, which is fantastic.

Mom Taught Me Some New Tricks!

Mom taught me some new tricks the other night!
She taught me Bang! (Play dead), ten five, and we're also working on leave it and get it. I'm having a hard time with leave it..I can't control myself when it involves not eating food when it's right infront of me, BOL.

Severe Ear Infection In My Left Ear & An Inflamed Right Ear

About a week or so ago I went to the vet because of my ear infection in my left ear. Turns out I have a severe ear infection in my left ear and my right ear is inflamed. The vet said since mom doesn't get any wax or anything when she has cleaned my ears recently, and there's alot of swelling it might be an allergy (seasonal). Anyways, we got medicine for my left ear and drops for my right, as well as pills. So far I'm getting much better. I don't smell as bad anymore and my ear doesn't seem to be bothering me as much, either. The pills sure would've taken into effect by now, I only have one more day of pills left! Which is great. I go back in two weeks (I think it's only one week to go, now) to get all my shots updated. And either before that or after that we're going to the beach! We're going to stay in a hotel for a couple nights, too so that'll be fun. Mom will get loads of pictures of Ozzie and I!
