Arrival Story: A gal my (then) boyfriend's roommate knew, got Putter at 6 weeks. I met him at 7 weeks and fell in love with him. At 8 weeks, I got a call from my boyfriend's roommate that said," if you want the dog pick him up within the hour or she's taking him to the pound." Needless to say, I picked him up and never let him go for 11 1/2 years! Best decision I ever made!
Bio: We had to make the painful decision to let Putter go on 2/9/07 due to chronic renal failure. We did everything we could to help him and we stayed with him until the end. Saying Goodbye was one of the hardest things we've had to do.
He will be forever loved and forever missed.

I will lend to you for awhile
a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe for two or three
But will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you’ll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise that he will stay,
since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.
I’ve looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd life’s land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain
Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again.
I fancied that I heard them say
“Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done,”
For all the joys this pup will bring,
the risk of grief you’ll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness
Will you love him while you may
And for the happiness you’ll know forever grateful stay.
But should I call him back
much sooner than you’ve planned
Please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you’ve managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you’ve loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.
I'm so very sad today! The town I spent my whole life in before coming to the bridge has experienced a major catastrophe! The biggest flood ever to hit Cedar Rapids has completely devastated our city! The floodwaters are receding which is great and people think that means it's almost over.................From what I've seen today, it is far from over!!! There are so many homes and so many beautiful old buildings that have suffered structurally! Many of them will be torn down if they haven't already started to collapse.
There are still pets stuck in homes and the city isn't letting people get into their homes to retrieve them and start the clean up...... We do have animal rescuers here to help get the animals out but now the city is being even tougher about getting into the areas that have been flooded because of safety issues.
I think it has been so surreal until today. Now it's all starting to sink in that this is really happening.
People are even going to jail for trying to get back into their homes!
You know, we have the National Guard and the police and the fire departments all doing such a great job, but I think we're missing the needed counselors or therapists to help the people deal with such a huge tragedy! We don't have enough clergy in this town for the amount of people affected!!
I don't know the answers, I'm just a small pup in this big, big world. I just don't like what I'm seeing in my home town! It is so very, very sad!! Please, Please continue to pray for all the communities that have been affected by Mother Nature's Wrath!!
