Well it's January and I survived yet ANOTHER holiday season. I got a new dinner dish from my grama, and it has a doggie on the bottom of it. It's very fitting, I must say.

For Turkey Day and Christmas, I had to go in the kennel, away from my mom and dad, and I don't care for it, but they're pretty good to me in the kennel. And at Christmas, I got to ride in the car aaaaalll the way up north and went in a kennel there. My mom said I was a real good girl in the car, even though I almost bit through my doggie seat belt. I got scolded for that, but they always forgive me. HA! I've got more tricks up my sleeve, they'll see.....

It was nice to finally be home, just me, mom, dad, and that crazy cat. Dad made a fire and we got to open gifts downstairs, and I liked it. They even got a Christmas ornament with my picture in it! It's "precious" as my mother says. Oh yah, they got one w/the cat too. But I have a halo on in my picture! Of course, I'm cuter as I am a basset, but that's neither here nor there.

I hate to report a"bath day weekend", but alas, I must. I was tricked with a treat, yet again, into the bathroom on Sunday and unceremoniously scrubbed, doused, lathered, and scrubbed some more. I withstood it with my usual dignity and resolve. My mother said I needed a bath cuz I was stanky and cuz my grama was coming this weekend. But they didn't brush my teeth, so my breath is still stinky!!! That'll show 'em. I'm a hound til the bitter end!

That's it for my latest adventures. Love, Minna-do

Is it Christmas yet?

Hello again, it's me--Minnie! I took a break from my naps today to write all of you dog enthusiasts a little note wishing you a Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and all that jazz. Things have been rather busy here in my house. My mother has been buying, wrapping, writing, ordering, directing, baking, cooking, and planning all sorts of things. She even had a Christmas Tea for the neighborhood ladies! She made so many treats and I didn't get NUTHIN'! I am told that I will be going "up north" for Christmas. I don't have any place to stay "up north" so I have to stay in a kennel. It makes me sad to leave my family, but people are always good to me in the kennel. My mother says next year she's staying home so it can just be all of us, together at home for Christmas, so I am looking forward to that. No long car ride--yay! I don't care for the car much--once I even threw up! I have my own seat belt though, so I am rather special, or so they tell me.

Today I got put in my crate because I snuck into the kitchen when my mother wasn't watching me (see my bio for more on my weakness for the kitchen). But I still got a rubdown from my daddy, so I could live with that.

Well I best be signing off. I'm ...getting .....so...sleeeeeeeeeeeeepy........

Woof!

Rough weekend

Well I think I'm finally recovering from the weekend. As you may have read on my bio, 'bath day weekends' are my pet peeve, and guess what it was last weekend? You guessed it. I keep hoping that when "they" summon me into the bathroom, and I hear that water running and see all the 'weapons' they have amassed to scrub me, dry me, clean my ears, etc., and I wag my tail real low, crouch down, and give them a sad ol' basset stare, that they will just rub me and relent on the bath. But that never works. So I reluctantly let my daddy heift (yes, heift) me up into the tub and I stare ahead resolutely as I get scrubbed, prodded, drenched, and scrubbed some more until they are finished. Then after they dry me, they open the door and I CHARGE out of the bathroom, barking furiously and running around the house and my mother always laughs, but my daddy always yells at me. But I'll show them-- I won't stay clean for long--HA!

Then there were numerous yellings at and 'time outs' for my relentless barking, which I cannot seem to control when I see ANYTHING across the street from my safe haven, the back yard. Don't they know I am just protecting our territory? I must bark at all strange people/dogs/critters, real or imagined! Harumph!!!

And on Sunday, it was that special day where kids come to the house dressed strangely and my mother gives them something (not sure what, but it's some sort of food as my basset nose would never mislead me). I was unceremoniously shut in my bedroom for the duration of the evening because I go 'mental' (as my mother puts it) whenever the doorbell rings. But I didn't care for it, as I wanted to participate!!! I even have a costume!

But I still remain a happy hound, blissful in the fact that I have a mom and a dad and a nice house--3 hots and a cot, as they say. Oh yah, plus a puss. I like to sniff her and she doesn't like it, but that's her problem.

Woof! Minnie-do
