Arrival Story:
After a whole life as a cat person, I became overwhelmed by an irresistable urge to get a dog. I knew next to nothing about dogs, breeds, care, nothing. I went to my favorite no-kill shelter (where I had previously gotten 3 cats over the years), and only one dog seemed to be right. She was a runaway (no collar) from my general area of the city. I visited her every day for the next 4 days, then brought my kids to meet her. She came home with me that week.

Bio:
Honey couldn't be alone. Well, she could, but she would go nuts and destroy screens, blinds, curtains, woodwork, and anything else that was close to a door or window. I took her to a pet therapist who recommended that I crate her and taught me how to go about that. Honey HATED the crate. She ground her teeth down by chewing the door grate. She would move her crate next to any thing she could reach--so she could pull it into the crate and destroy it. She once pulled in almost all of an XL winter coat. In the end, I had to get rid of the crate. I got her a dog, instead. She's been perfectly behaved ever since. I've had Honey for 7+ years now. I love her so much and I tell her all the time, "You're my best dog." ----- --Update: 4 weeks ago (Oct.2007), I found out that Honey has cancer. We started chemotherapy 2 weeks ago, and I'm hoping for the best. Send good thoughts to Honey. --Update: Honey lost her battle with cancer on February 13, 2008. The chemo never got her into a good remission. The vet couldn't understand why, because she had all the markers of a good remission prognosis. In the end, it seemed like she may have had two different kinds of cancer. Honey gave me almost 8 years of unconditional love. She was the best dog ever.
