Arrival Story:
I came to live with my owner in February of 2003. I was abused by my former owners and i was rescued by the Pug Rescue of New England. My owner wanted a pug so her mom said she would get her one for her 16th birthday (don't worry, i wasn't one of those cute puppy surprise gifts) a few months after my owner did an interview with them about the kind of dog she was looking for they told her they had a dog they thought would be good for her. so my owner and her mom drove 3 hours to pick me up. A couple years after living with her my owner started hearing about Psychiatric Service Dogs and how they can help with depression and other mental illnesses. I was already a very good dog and well behaved so she decided to train me to be her service dog. So today i'm very happy to be living with an owner who loves and cares for me and as her Psychiatric Service Dog i give that love and caring right back to her.

I am a Psychiatric Service Dog, but am about to retire as I have several health problems. My mom is getting another Service Dog to take my place. I was euthanized on September 13, 2008. I was just to sick and my mom didn't want to see me suffer. I had arthritis in my spine and both back legs and at times i was having trouble walking and would limp sometimes and my mom knew this winter it would be even worse. I also had hypothyroid and alot of problems associated with that such as dry eye (the vet said it was so bad that a thick film had developed over my eyes and the vet was surprised i could still see, but said my vision was impaired and i would probably go completly blind in the near future), skin problems, ear infections, yeast infections, i also was having trouble with my anal glands and also developed a strange odor on me. I also had a VERY sensitive stomach and vomited alot. I also had dental disease and almost all my teeth had to be extracted. My mom also thinks i was deaf because i stopped responding to noises of any kind unless there was a vibration associated with the noise and i also stopped responding to voice commands yet i responded well to hand signals. Things always happen for a reason though because the day i was euthanized was the same day that my mom got her new Service Dog.
