Arrival Story:
We were ready and looking for another 4-legged member of our family when our neighbor told us to call up to our vet's office and talk to one of the assistants. The lady's sister raises dachshunds, and had a litter available. When we went to see them, my husband went nuts over Speck because he was so noisy and vocal. He immediately made up his mind that this was the little guy he wanted and was very adamant about it! He definitely made the best choice - Speck is a wonderful little dog - very loving and snuggly but also very active and ready to go all the time. :-D Speck is a Rottweiler in a Dachshund body! ;-)

Bio:
In September, 2004, when Speck was 7 1/2 months old, we had to evacuate for Hurricane Ivan (notice a pattern here?! Those hurricanes got a bit old! LOL) and when we got home after our trip to Illinois, we weren't home 15 minutes before Speck began throwing up and then had **sorry, this is gross** bloody diarrhea. We grabbed the potty pad and put it in a big ziploc bag, wrapped Speck in a blanket and headed to the Emergency Vet. They did x-rays and ran blood work. He had HGE - Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. He had to stay overnight hooked to an IV for fluids and meds. They wanted to keep him another night, but it unfortunately, after having to evacuate for the hurricane, we couldn't afford another $500 for a second night at the vets. So, they sent him home with Flagyl and Lomitol. We made sure someone was home with him all the time, and he recovered quite nicely. So, needless to say, when we had to evacuate for Hurricane Katrina, we got some "ACE" - a tranquilizer/anti-anxiety med from the vet for all the dogs. They did very well that trip, and they have all adjusted quite nicely to our new home! =-)

New House & Big Yard!

My mom, dad, sister and all of us dogs moved into our new house in Illionis on September 30th. We have a big fenced in back yard - you should see PeeWee run around the yard chasing her "Finding Nemo" ball that mom got her! hehehe I love to chase the ball too. Suzy has been in trouble a few times for diggin' in the yard, but she doesn't dig real big holes...just small tiny ones. Dad brings her in the house and washes all the mud off of her paws. We are really happy that mom & dad got this new house! ;-)

We are still in Illinois! Mom and Dad say we are staying here because our house in Gulfport is gone. Mom and Dad found good jobs (more money to buy us stuff! Yippee!) and our human sissy is going to school here. We like being close to Grandma and Grandpa.

Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina came last week, and now I'm @ Grandma's house with Suzy and Peewee, and my hoomom, hoodad, and hoosister. Mom says our house is still there, but we won't be able to move back into it. There's a tree in our bedrooms, and there was lots and lots of water in it - now there's lots of nasty mud and smelly stuff in it. She said we'll have to find a new house. Dad's boss says he has a house we can live in.

Suzy, Peewee, and I are having lots of fun here at Grandma's. She has a nice fenced in yard and a closed in back porch where we sleep. We run around and chase birds and bark at squirrels and the kids we see through the fence. Mom says we will have to stay here a few more weeks until we have power and water again.

I'll write again and let you know when we get to go home! ;-)
