Hemangiosarcoma Awareness Month

I would like to declare August as hemangiosarcoma awareness month.

Come August 29, 2005, it will be one year since Sumner lost his life to the evil cancer known as hemangiosarcoma. I am going to be sharing the following link with everyone I can, and asking them to do the same. The more that is known about this deadly form of canine cancer, the more that can be done. As it stands now, it can barely be detected or predicted and it cannot be cured. It is certain death to any dog who gets it (It is hereditary, so I implore breeders to do research on this in your dogs history before breeding them. Please.) It takes about six months from start to finish, but goes undetected until the dog collapses. usually the dog will die upon collapse as that is when the tumor on whichever organ had the cancer, bursts and fills the dog up with blood. Somehow, Sumner, my angel survived 9 days after he collapsed. He wasn't even diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, I discovered what he died from of my own research. The way this cancer was dealt with was horrible. I will be bringing awareness to dog owners til the day I die.

I don't know about all breeds but 2 out of three Goldens will die of cancer. That's outrageous! It's more than humans! Canine cancer is a horrible killer of these dear earth angels we have been given that share our lives and love us so unconditionally. Don't we owe them the respect of fighting this killer?

Sumner,
I love you my beautiful puppychild, you left me far too soon, you live on in spirit and I won't let you be forgotten.
