Arrival Story:
Sabu was sold as a Show/Breeding dog but was sent back at 10 months because of a hip problem. He seemingly did not have a problem with his hips when he arrived back at the breeders though. After some weeks he was ready (showpreparations) to be shown again and he did amazing. He won a lot!!!! I had him at my house to get him ready for the shows (I am a dog groomer and work for the dog's breeder). It was a lot of work to keep his hair just perfect!!! Some weeks after the show a hip problem started showing (again) and it was decided to take him out of the show program and give him some rest. I took him back to my house so I could work with him and give him therapeutic massages and work with homeopathic remedies. His pain got worse, but the Vets were not sure about the outcome of a surgery so we decided to try everything else BUT surgery. I started doing Hydrotherapy with him to strengthen his weak muscels, because he was favouring the other leg. Sabu was a trouper and did whatever was asked of him. After some time it was clear that no Homeopath or Hydrotherapist, Massage Therapist could help him. So we decided to go ahead with surgery, hoping for the best. There had been some difficulties during the surgery and he also needed to have his bone fixed after that (with a pin and wires). Sabu was not complaining at all. He was doing quite fine after some weeks and when we went back to have the pin taken out the Vet said that he should have full function of his legs! Sabu was doing better and better as the weeks went on and he was actually playing a lot with the other dogs. Being a companion breed he was getting more attached to me though, which is difficult because I look after quite a number of animals and it is hard to favor ONE. Sabu also became a Therapy dog with Therapeutic Paws of Canada under my guidance and we went to visit the Nursing home and Hospital on a regular basis. Everybody fell in love with him right away. Sabu has something extremely special about him that can not be seen, just felt. He has a certain presents that just calms people down immediately and lets them forget about their troubles and worries! HE truly is a special little dog.

Bio:
During the summer 2006 I felt that I could not give Sabu what he really needed. Sure we visited people and we went for a lot of walks and had playtime. Being a groomer I had no problems keeping him looking his best. But there was something missing. He was longing for ONE on ONE attention and that is the only thing I cannot provide at THE DOMESTIC CARNIVORE. We are a big family and we all have to share. Through my breeder friend who actually bred Sabu and gave him into my care when Sabu needed my help, we found a couple who had bought a puppy from the breeder not long before and who were now interested in adding another member to their family. It was not easy for me to even think about letting little Sabu go, but I trusted the breeder. I sat down and wrote down everything I knew about Sabu and all the instructions I had for his new family. Eleven pages later I thought I had done him justice. Handing Sabu over to his new parents (just for a trial visit) was one of the hardest things to do for me at that time. Sabu's new family has turned out to be WHAT WAS MISSING in Sabu's life!Thank you Hutcheon family for taking such good care of Sabu!!!! It seems like everybody who had the pleasure to look after Sabu for some time did their best but it was all just a temporary stay to prepare him for his new home. Sabu has touched so many people and he will always be with us in our hearts! I must add that I am really lucky because I am still allowed to groom Sabu and see him on a regular basis. He has changed a lot and is now the puppy he could never be because of being in pain and because of people expecting too much of him.
